Only $915b? Obviously not trying hard enough. Better pump those numbers up 😎

Broken down by person, every citizen carries about a $3000 annual fee for the military. That is whack.

Sad thing is they can’t give soldiers living wages or help out struggling veterans a lot of times.

For further comparison, if the US was spending 40% of its GDP on defense (the percentage spent during the last year of WW2), it would be spending somewhere around 12 trillion dollars.

Mabye we should stop the military industrial complex from overpricing their products

If we weren't being scammed constantly and having insider deals with arms manufacturers and politicians then that budget would be substantially lower. Or we would have flying saucers by now 😂

What a joke. All that spending but our vets are treated like shit

One thing to mention though is that things are more expensive in the US vs a country like China so a dollar spent in the US is not equivalent to a dollar in China.

If you take that into account (called comparing at purchasing power parity) then the gap between the US & China narrows _a lot_

And the spending on vietnam is what killed the space program. Thanks Nixon.

US fighting Russia will not be like fighting Vietnam 😅 😂

Reminder than all but 2 countries on that list are also US allies.

every single dollar of that is one dollar that could be spent on American education

Also, 2-5 on that list; China, Russia, India and Saudi have a lot of outdated equipments from. They are spending "heaps" just to modernise and catch up.

Imagine Germany switching to WW2 military spendings
We gonna see a good 4 Trillion USD

I’d love to see those stats throughout history (like how much was Rome spending compared to others), but also budget clearly isn’t everything. The US still lost in Vietnam and Afghanistan due to the other side having the sympathy of the population and better knowledge of the land.

It costs a lot of money to defend against made up threats and to make up real threats where there weren't any before

$916b / 150m population would be a flat tax of $6, 107 per person.

Christ, Canada isn't even on there, as a Canadian, this is troubling. Times are only going to get worse before they get better.
