(MINNEAPOLIS, MN, 7/16/18) – Tomorrow, the Minnesota chapter of the Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR-MN) will hold a joint news conference with a coalition of Immigrant rights organizations are urging the U.S. Department of Homeland Security (DHS) to grant Somalia a reinstatement of the Temporary Protected Status (TPS).

TPS is set to expire for Somalia on September 17, 2018. DHS will decide on whether to extend and re-designate TPS for Somalia this Thursday July 19, 2018, 60 days before the expiration date. If extended, individuals from Somalia with TPS will be eligible to re-register for an extension of their status. Given the severe environmental and humanitarian conditions in Somalia, re-designation is dire. if TPS is cancelled deportations may commence as a result.
