Just found this channel! I was looking for a good review of the game as I liked the combat, music, and aesthetic in the demo but was feeling like it was still missing…something. Your review was excellent and kind of confirmed my biggest hesitation on buying it. I still intend to get it, but feel better waiting on a decent sale with the story as it is.

I can't believe i only found your channel now with all your years of video making, even more when you talked about games i like or had interest of looking for a review.
Great review by the way, all the points flow one to another as your analyze all the facets important to the game, the size is just right to watch after a long time focusing on something and you need to get back just after, what in my view, is something being lost in a lot of reviewers that talk taking circles in some aspects, got a new sub.

For me I think the highlights regarding characters were Beat and Shoka I also think it doesn't help that secret reports reveal info that should be in the main story especially for Tsugumi, Rindo, Hazuki Regardless I enjoyed the game and hopefully a new setting takes place for possible future TWEWY games (especially with how Uzuki explained the game locations)

I feel like I'm one of the few people has the opposite feeling about this series. I enjoyed the first game (played final remix on switch, not the original ds version), but I feel like it didn't live up to all of the praise I've seen for it over the years. On the other hand with Neo, while I haven't finished it yet, I haven't been able to put down. The visuals, music, and gameplay have all had huge improvements from the first in my opinion. I can't really comment much on the story though, since I'm only on the 3rd day of week two atm

I had a very similar experience. The game wasn't bad and I do want to recommend it for the fun combat & nice call backs to the original but story and characters fell short for me and made it a little less exciting to go through/finish.

Yeah, the pacing of this game is sluggish. The turf wars slow it down, and the lack of urgency for the first half of the game really hampers the progression. The last half of the game has me hooked, but it just took so long to get there!

The style, presentation, and gameplay here are so damn good that I'm having just as much fun working on the 100% as I did with the OG, but honestly I'm glad I'm not the onlyone that felt underwhelmed by the plot. Baby spoilers but it had it's hype moments and everything, but almost all the character archs fell flat in the end. The biggest offender was Rindo in how I didn't really feel him learn his life lesson. The game just barely touches on his issues outside of a few lines on the side and suddenly during the final boss we get an out of nowhere line basically saying "wow Rindo you sure have overcome your character flaw!" It could just be a problem with him following up Neku's god-tier character journey but I just felt that he had a flat arch that ended with the game telling us he experienced development.

Fret basically had the most engaging and relatable arch but I just felt that once his story was getting good and was really starting to go somewhere, it just abruptly stopped. Nagi was easily my favorite character but I just felt the game really didn't do much with her. Like it seemed like they were gearing up to say something about escapism and losing yourself in fiction towards the end there but did nothing with it.

I'm going to be working on NEO next after I finish Great Ace Attorney. If anything, to answer your question about feeling underwhelmed with a good title, it's probably Great Ace Attorney. I like it, but it just doesn't have that impact that Phoenix Wright's titles did. Don't let my words sway your opinion. Give it a try and see if you like it. I'm almost done, so when I start NEO, I'll let you know what I thought. Awesome review as always, milady.

the original TWEWY is one of my favorite games, and I really love NEO, it's been total joy for me! I'm sorry it didn't resonate with you as much. I think for me, things like the rewinds and turf wars didn't bother me as much, but I'm also the type who doesn't get disengaged by minor repetition, either.
Either way, NEO has been an absolute treat for me, and one of my favorite games this year

Ooooo, top five art direction video would be sick. I’m a sucker for cell shaded games. Makes them timeless in IMO, just look at Wind Waker.

I really enjoyed the Ps4 demo as this seems like a good game to just chill with rather than being taxing. Really good to hear your perspective seeing as I didn't play the first one. Think I'll get this when it's mot full price.
