I‘m very critiquing my lenses very hard. I found that the overall quality of lenses has improved a lot in recent years.
A question: do you have a trick how to make sure your lens is exactly 90° to the target other than measuring?

The question is how common is a 'bad' copy. This differs of course for every manufacturer as well. On grey market sites you can save quite a bit but returning the lens will be a lot of hassle if things go wrong. Would you dare to order a sigma lens online that is hard to return but if all goes well gives you a discount of 15-30%?

I have a Fuji Xmount Tamron 18-300 which is coming up focus forward at close to 1mm. Afaik Fuji has no way to fix this as it is automatically programmed. Any idea if Tamron has software to fix this or it needs to be RMA-ed?

I realize that this video is a few years old, and that technology has changed. Regarding focus accuracy, isn't that an issue with cameras that have separate focus and image sensors and a mirror, and the light path might be slightly different length to each of the two sensors? Is that not a problem with the camera body calibration, rather than the lens? With the current generation of mirrorless cameras, where the focus points are physically part of the image sensor, and therefore on exactly the same plane, wouldn't this be a non-issue?
