Not so much 12 places but 11 large areas covering the bulk of the North Island and one “place” Blue Springs”, not sure why you singled that one out !! Hobbiton is a lot closer to Hamilton than Rotorua btw. How did you pick your top 12, that would be interesting to know 😀

However, no way would I rank Auckland city in the 12, let alone number 1 billing.
One of the most overpriced cities in the world to live in, and the highways leading both north and south of it are jam packed every long weekend or holiday period with vehicles escaping the place.
Some other great destinations include the Bay of Islands, Tauranga/Mt Maunganui, Mt Ruapehu/Tongariro, East Cape area...
