He ended up winning the competition anyway, but Pharrell didn't care about that. He only cared about getting the artist as far as he could.

I'm very proud of Sawyer for what he is doing now. I follow him on Twitter and Instagram. Right from the beginning you could see his love and passion for the music he plays. He did not sell his music, so to speak, for fame. When he chose Pharell, you could see that he is in it for the love of music and not just the fame. While the other coaches talked about winning and all that, Pharell just said he wanted him to be himself and he got Sawyer. I mean, look at the guy- very charming, good looking, and talented- he has everything that can make him the next idol. When Sawyer released Take it All, his 1st song after winning, I thought "Sawyer is not gonna do this. It's too pop." I'm so proud of him. I dig his music so much. He is very inspiring.
