After having owned a water fountain for a couple of years, one of the most important aspects to consider is how to clean it. Algae builds up over time - even if you use an algaecide. It has to be cleaned regularly and the water needs to be replaced. While this design looks good, I can imagine those rocks will be full of algae in no time and will be difficult to clean. The whole thing needs to be taken apart, cleaned and flushed and then start over with new water. I'm still looking for a DIY solution that's easier to keep clean.

How does the water recycle?... you need a few more holes on your tray.🤔

Great but I think the tray needs a few more small holes to allow for better drainage into the containment vessel besides the central one. An easier and more reliable waterproofing would be to use a piece of pond liner to waterproof the entire large vessel. Use pieces of styrofoam foam or foam insulation in the top pot so that you only need one layer of rock. This is too much weight in the top pot. Finally, the pump should be lower in the pot to avoid accidentally running dry, and it should be strong enough to raise water to the higher level.

Easiest diy video I’ve seen! Definitely trying! Thank you !!

Nice video. But I would recommend putting your pump lower in the bottom planter.

Nice project - but MAJOR problem & safety issue with placing all that weight on the electrical cord. Need to do a cut out in that tray.

It’s fun to make and later on the bubbling water is incredibly relaxing!

Do you put holes in the saucer for the water to recirculate

This does not work. We bought everything at Lowe’s to do this project for our back patio. Between the pots, pump, rocks and other materials it’s well over $200. The main problem is the weight of the water in the larger planter and being able to seal it. Forget the plugs and caulk. I’ve tried cement, flex seal, and combinations of both and the water finds a way out of the bottom of the pot. The next and last thing I’ll try to do is finding a water tight container that won’t leak and can hold the weight of the pump and second container. This not as “easy” as it seems.

Can you purchase an extension pipe or tube if you wanted to add a 3rd smaller pot on top to make the fountain even taller?

Oops! bathtub plugs used in bottom of 1st pot will mildew & deteriorated fast. What's something else that can work to plug up holes? Thanks.
