How to ruin your axe's heat treatment in 20 seconds!

if you don't have power tools use a rag and a bastard file work up from 2 layers as far as you can go it will create a nice edge. trust me i know i split my finger in half after sharpening

What if I don't have a vise grip, grinding flap disc or a grinder.?

You can see on the blade of his axe he’s been using a grinder for a long time DON’T use a grinder it weakens the blade and makes it prone to chipping

it didnt necessarily ruin the heat treat if he didnt get it to hot! he probably should put his safety glasses on though not very bright.

In order to affect the temper, you'd have to heat the steel to about 400 degrees. A few quick passes with the grinder and a flapper disc aren't going to get you there. A lot of wanna-be's spewing crap because they've seen more than one episode of "Forged in Fire." Good God. Granted the angle of the sharpen is probably too acute for a working hatchet.
