The Easiest Way to Sharpen Knives

How do I sharpen my knives?

I’ll be honest with you… I tried whetstones for years but they were a lot harder to get the hang of, they took a while to set up, and they made a huge mess. After that, I would take my knives to a professional for sharpening, but I would often put off the process as long as possible and just end up using a dull knife until I physically HAD to drop it off again.

Over a year ago, I made the switch to the HORL (with some skepticism), and immediately I was able to get my knives paper-cutting sharp, and I can maintain that sharpness super easily by sharpening anytime I need to.

My HORL 2 lives on my counter so I can use it whenever I need to, but I’m so glad there is a brand NEW more affordable option in the HORL 3 Cruise, so that I can recommend it to everyone I know. You can find these and other recommended products on my channel page.

By the way… this is a great Christmas gift idea. If I didn’t already have one… this is what I would ask Santa for.

This thing JUST came out, but I really wish I knew about this option a couple months ago when I made a comparison video of a few different brands of rolling sharpeners... (That FULL video is linked to this one). It does the job just as well as the original version, but has a super minimal construction and affordable price point. This thing rocks, and I'm happy to introduce it to you. 👍👍

I was skeptical of these rolling sharpeners for a while, but oh my god it’s worth it. My sharpener may be three times the cost of my knife, but it’s just so convenient. What used to be a weekend task I had to prepare for is now just like a few minutes. I have the Horl 2, not the new cruise, but if it’s even half as fast at sharpening then it’s still worth it over whetstones.

My sharpener is like a power tool. It has a belt that spins with a guard that has various angles on it. It's so satisfying. I love it.

I bought a HORL a while ago, sharpening is a pleasure, not a chore.

I remember when I was a year 2 cook, Chef was sending people home if he saw they didn't keep their knives sharpened. Everyone was on edge...😂😂 This video made me think of that though, thanks. Love your content!

Honestly, I like my whetstone or oilstone with a strop, makes sure that edge is super sharp

The tricky part about sharpening knives with a whetstone is keeping the exact same angle on every stroke and that’s like impossible unless you’ve had decades of experience. So this is great because it takes the guess work out of the proccess

I’ve got one myself and I wouldn’t be without it.
So convenient and with consistent results.
I’ve tried whetstones, electric grinder wheels, pull though sharpeners, the lot
Not the cheapest out there, but the OG is fantastic.
For Christmas I’ve asked my wife to get me the higher grit professional discs and a leather strop to take it to the next level.

Any reason they give you a steel honing disc instead of ceramic like in the past?

or just get a thin diamond sharpenner, no need to soak for half a day, you just grab it, wet it for few secs and run your knife over it a few times. Once you master it you can use it the same way you'd use a honing steel while still beeing able to use it as a stone. Cheaper, almost as convinient, more versatile and sharpen your knife much better. The only drawback is that not everyone can use it as easily as roller.
