I’m a 100% disabled combat veteran who can’t go to college. It took me 8 years for the VA to help me, meanwhile while I was waiting I lost everything. I would love to be standing in his shoes at UCLA finishing up a chemistry degree that I had started. I love organic synthetic chemistry and was working towards a PhD in Bioorganic and Medicinal chemistry so that I could do Alzheimer’s disease research. I did TONS of organic Chem research in undergrad. 40+ hrs a week plus all of my coursework 16-18 credit hour semesters and was head of several student organizations. Joining the Marines ensured I went to college but also took everything away from me bc of the mental illness I incurred. I would love to be in his shoes. That’s my white privilege… joined the Marines on Sept 11 and now permanently mentally ill and scraping by on disability. I came from extreme poverty… no one told me I could have gone to college and gotten student loans etc. I joined the Marines to escape. Irony. In the end, I didn’t escape.
