Ensuring the security of your entire home network with a VPN can be overwhelming, especially if you have numerous devices to consider. Yet you can simply set up a VPN on your home router, instantly protecting all your devices at once. Today I’ll dive into why having a VPN on your router is essential, how to set it up, and what are the best VPN for router options for 2024!
------------------------------------------------
❓Why use a VPN on router in the first place?
------------------------------------------------

Well, to begin with, this way I don’t have to install a separate app on every device in my home. Not every one of them can even support a VPN app in the first place.

Secondly, even top VPN providers often have a simultaneous connection limit, and I don’t want to juggle numbers when trying to protect a household-worth of gadgets.

Thirdly, with VPN on a router, my devices are safeguarded 24/7, no need to launch an app on every one of them every time I need to hide my IP address or conceal my activity from Internet Service Providers.

------------------------------------------------
❓Can I install a VPN on my router?”
------------------------------------------------
This is a good question since not every router supports a VPN connection.

Frankly, most ISP-issued ones are no good, due to restricted settings that they claim are there to provide better service… But they are not fooling anyone, are they? Off-the-shelf routers are slightly better. You can always check their configurations for OpenVPN or WireGuard clients, or consult customer support. Sometimes, this info is even written on the box.

Custom firmware routers are probably the best option in terms of price-to-value ratio - almost all of them support VPN connections, and those routers are much cheaper than out-of-the-box ones. This last type of routers is expensive though, whether they are pre-configured, like ExpressVPN’s Aircove, or flashed, that support providers like NordVPN or Surfshark. That said, this price is directly tied to the highest quality of connection you will get with one of them.

Express VPN is the best in my opinion, and I've tried all 3. My question is what do you do when you can't get into your bank account, which happens to me sometimes. On my phone I just shut the vpn off or switch to a different location. I am guessing it's not so quick and easy running a vpn through the router?

If I can get it on my router everything in house that is connected to it is safe? Now when I leave home and am on 5 G from my carrier I am no longer covered? Right? Is there a VPN that I can download that includes everything in house? So home computers are safe in house so I would only need them for my 4 iPhones in family. Help!
