Netflix's hit show Bridgerton has been quite a popular topic. While I really enjoyed watching this show, I have some thoughts on it as well.

Personally, I admire the fact that an intelligent and successful black woman from Chicago had the insight to see that a fictional historical romance about white people could actually be made into a television series with a diverse cast and with a black man in a leading romantic role. And I’m extremely happy that Shonda Rhimes has produced the most successful international TV show in Netflix history!

I also really enjoyed seeing four strong and intelligent black women on the screen in the TV series.

Since this was written from a female perspective and about a female protagonist, Daphne (the first book in the series is called The Duke and I), I really didn’t mind seeing four older white men and one older black man being portrayed so negatively in the series.

Handsome, rich, and intelligent men with a troubled past is a common theme in romantic novels. So I have no problem seeing a black man cast in a role normally given to white males. And Rege was excellent!

I assume that adding Marina to the story was a way of adding a young black actress to the cast. But I guess if they wanted to be politically correct, they could have simply given the role to a white actress. But I’m not sure if the black actress would have appreciated that as far as her career is concerned. And I also don ‘t buy into the idea that black actors should never be portrayed as evil or negative characters on the screen. I absolutely love Giancarlo Esposito playing villains in Breaking Bad, The Boys, and in The Mandalorian:-)
