If your car antenna 📡 is broken (or you just want to replace it) and you discovered a threaded bolt piece is stuck inside then don't be alarmed 😨 as you can replace it easily in about 10 mins ⏳. Please SUBSCRIBE 🔔 if this quick video helped you, and click on SHOW MORE to see details and tools. 👉👉👉

*You will need a left hand drill set, a power drill, and a new car antenna.*

This video is specifically on a Chrysler, Dodge, or Jeep vehicle, but the process is similar to other manufacturers where a a piece of the car antenna gets stuck in its antenna mount box.

🧰 Tools needed:

Optional:
Air Can OR Vacuum
Small squirt of penetrating oil

*Part Needed:*

A Universal car antenna can be purchased around $10 and comes in various sizes. OR you could buy the original car antenna for your vehicle.

*Multiple antennas to choose from:*

📋 INSTRUCTIONS TO REMOVE AND INSTALL:

1) Remove remains of old car antenna if hanging or unscrew counter clockwise if still attached.

2) Put your power drill in reverse

3) Make a small pilot hole in the center using a 1/16" left hand drill bit or as close to this size as possible.

4) Switch to a bigger size such as a 3/32" left hand drill bit to extract the broken or snapped threaded antenna screw bolt out of its roof mounted base. AKA DRILL IT OUT!

5) Get the little shards or pieces of metal out with an air can or vacuum.

6) WATCH this video on how to clean the antenna and its base to provide a better ground connection before you put a replacement antenna in.

7) Grab the new compatible vehicle antenna stick and screw it in clockwise and into the roof base. Make sure it feels tight.

*A new antenna may fix your radio if it was not working properly or if your signal was weak.

If you ever can't get a screw out or the thread is stripped from the top like a Philips head screw. Then the same approach can be done using a reverse drill set. I even did this on a Caliper bolt that snapped during a brake pad change.

Thank you for this quick fix! Spent $8 for the bit set, $11 for the antenna, and 5 minutes on a Saturday morning.

Deciding on breakfast took longer.

Thanks for the video! Another solution I found was this: I used an awl and a hammer and lightly tapped the broken off part to turn it little by little (it could not be grasped by pliers or nudged by a screwdriver). I tapped it laterally with as little downward force as possible. That took about 5 minutes but it came out little by little until I could grasp it with my fingers and get it out the rest of the way. I got that tip from the service department at Klein Honda in Everett WA, BTW, so thanks to them. Had the piece refused to come out with the awl and hammer, my next step would have been your method (a body shop might cost you a couple hundred bucks, I learned).

Exactly my issue and I fixed the same way today. I found that a center tap helped me keep the bit from wandering to get it started. I also used a couple of drops of oil to help the bit cut a little quicker. Thanks for a very useful how-to video!

Great video thanks for the help. No pilot hole needed. Used the 3/32 for the win! Drilled nice and slow, came out right away. Thanks again!

Thank you! I was able to remove the piece stuck in there with a small drill bit. I drilled a small hole and when I reversed it, I was skeptical, but it threaded itself out enough for me to finish by hand.

My husband was able to do it, and he's not a fixer upper kind of guy. Thank you.
