The word "Janu'' means "soul'' in Sanskrit, and "Aman'' means "peace'' in Sanskrit. Janu hotel projects are underway around the world, and Janu Tokyo is the first under the brand to open.

The interior design was by Jean-Michel Gathy of Aman's partner Denniston Architects.

■Azabudai Hills
Azabudai Hills is a complex located in Azabudai 1-chome, Toranomon 5-chome, and Roppongi 3-chome, Minato-ku, Tokyo, Japan. Opening on November 24, 2023. The total project cost is approximately 640 billion JPY (450 million USD). The developer is Mori Building. The area is approximately 8.1 ha, the site area is approximately 63,900 m2, and the total floor area is approximately 861,500 m2.

Azabudai Hills is divided into Azabudai Hills Mori JP Tower, Azabudai Hills Residence A/B, and Azabudai Hills Garden Plaza A/B/C/D. The height of Azabudai Hills Mori JP Tower is 330m (64 floors above ground, 5 floors underground), and in addition to offices, there are also residences, medical facilities, commercial facilities, and an international school.

The two Azabudai Hills Residences are residential high-rise buildings, with Residence B having a height of 262.83m and Residence A having a height of 237.20m. Azabudai Hills Garden Plaza consists of four buildings ranging from 3 to 8 stories. Additionally, a central plaza with an area of approximately 6,000 m2 has been established between Mori JP Tower and Garden Plaza.

麻布台ヒルズは麻布台ヒルズ森JPタワー、麻布台ヒルズレジデンスA/B、麻布台ヒルズガーデンプラザA/B/C/Dに分かれています。麻布台ヒルズ森JPタワーの高さは330m（地上64階、地下5階）で、オフィスのほか、住宅・医療施設・商業施設・インターナショナル・スクールも併設されています。

Nightly fee at an Aman hotel often costs more than $3, 000. Although a room at Janu, Aman's more affordable sibling brand, costs only about half the price of a room at Aman, it is still expensive -- even when compared to other five-star hotels.

Aman hotels are known for their exclusivities, attention to details, and unparalleled personalized services. Certainly guests will not get the same one-of-a-kind experiences as at Aman, but I think that Janu guests will still have an exceptional stay. For one, the staff-to-guest ratio at a Janu hotel is 3:1, half of the staff-to-guest ratio at an Aman hotel. A decline in quality? Not really, because the staff-to-guest ratio of 3:1 is still higher than that at many five-star hotels. The ideal staff-to-guest ratio for a five-star hotel is 2.5:1. At Janu, it is 3:1. Given the high staff-to-guest ratio, guests at Janu can still enjoy quite personalized service and experience the company's commitment to attention to details.

Unlike the boutique nature of Aman resorts that have only up to about 50 rooms and suites, Janu hotels have far more rooms and create opportunities for guests to socialize. The gym shown in this video occupies 4, 000 sqm and is the largest in Tokyo.

So, Aman or Janu? 😄 Besides the money issue, I think it also goes down to what you are looking for: a highly personalized and intimate experience where you often stay in high-rise penthouse or standalone villa, or a less exclusive but more lively stay with more human connections.
