Amber lives on a diet of french fries every meal of every day for the past 26 years. Her seven-year-old daughter is following in her footsteps.
Freaky Eaters documents the intense struggles of those with a dangerous compulsion towards a particular food. With the help of two experts, the Freaky Eater confronts the painful truth behind their food obsession and fights to reclaim control of their diet and combat the destructive side effects their behaviour is having on their health. Patients include a girl who drinks more than 30 cans of cola a day, a 29-year-old mother who only eats French fries and a diabetic who has a life-threatening addiction to cheeseburger. Can they overcome their dependencies and learn how to manage their diets?

Only Human celebrates and explores the unique and personal qualities we all have.

I’m sorry.. I am not diminishing the fact that this is a very realistic disorder.. HOWEVER, I call BS on anyone thinking that this will be ‘fixed’ in ONE WEEK. 26 years of a repetitive diet - that doesn’t go away in days.

I’m surprised she’s still alive without any serious diseases. Horrifying how her family and friends let her get this far

It’s actually quite impressive that not only did she grow but she grew a whole healthy baby on a strict French fry diet .

How she’s not obese is beyond me….. 125 lbs of greasy, deep-fried French fries per month. And she has flawless skin???? Must have EXTREMELY good genetics 😭

As soon as she started cringing at a red french fry I immediately knew this was more psychological than medical.

I feel like Amber's daughter is practicing a learned behaviour from her mum. She has watched her mum gag and dislike food and so has copied her

They wanted her to try new foods for the first time in 26 years and thought the best place to start was a deep fried carrot 😂 Why didn't she try ice cream or deep fried chicken?

ARFID .... after years of fighting for help for my own daughter, who is exactly like this lady and we finally got a diagnosis- ARFID. The amount of medical professionals who told us she would grow out of it, literally couldnt grasp how severe he struggles with eating were made it so much harder. Even with her diagnosis we still have a lot of medical professionals tell us they haven't heard of ARFID before. Hopefully more people become educated to that term.

The crispy parts on a fry are the best though.

It's so weird to see how these doctors approach the problem. She hasn't eaten anything but fries for 26 years, so let's try raw mushrooms and asparagus- foods that 90% of people don't like, and then watch her gag with a judgy face. Empty toast, empty pasta, mashed potatoes, baked potatoes maybe as a first not too scary step...

this series really makes me grateful that my mom never let me go too far or enabled any bad food habits

Note: When your kid doesn't want to eat anything other than french fries, stop giving them french fries and watch, like magic, they will start eating something else.
Her parents are enablers.

“Between the ages of 3 and 4 she stopped eating everything but french fries”
Some people can’t be parents, you don’t allow your child to choose what they eat.

So apparently this episode aired in 2010 on TLC... which means that woman is now 40 and her daughter is 21. I wish we could get a follow-up on how their diets are now and how they got there...

The fact she doesn't have any break outs it's crazy. I eat one serving of fries and I feel like I'm growing pimples by the second.

It's kinda infuriating she tried to make it sound like feeding her daughter fries for every meal is simply teaching her "its ok to be different". No lol.

Why is no one one talking about her mom who cooked her fries her entire life? That's bordline negligence c'mon....like how is that a solution?

I’m honestly so happy for her because she finally found out what’s been going on with her for so long- and now she knows it and is relieved. I’m also happy for her knowing that her daughter is a normal child as well and isn’t directly like her.

I had a food avoidance disorder over 40 years ago when it was pretty much unheard of. Most foods were virtually inedible to me. It was as if someone had offered me a plate of assorted insects to dine on. I was literally terrified of most foods and would sit in front of my plate for hours, refusing to eat. I didn’t care that I would starve, I could not force myself to eat it. If someone did force feed me, I would promptly throw up. It’s a real condition- a food phobia. Rare, but definitely real.
