SA survivor and my assaulter was one of my best friends. None of our other friends believed me even though we'd all seen him do questionable things before. Not even I thought he was capable of doing what he did to me until it happened. That's the most terrifying thing about charismatic predators, they're really good at hiding in plain sight. Look at BTK or Green River. Two men who were married, had kids, and BTK even worked at his local church. Just because you THINK you know someone does not mean they're not capable of terrible things when the doors are closed.

I think Christina said it best. Just because someone presents well to you and others, doesn't meant they didn't do the terrible thing. Evil can put on a friendly-presenting face. Thats how they get away with it 🤷‍♀

The worst part about the whole Danny Masterson thing is that I see this shit all the time. I see people get SA'd by family members, and the family would rather go "but so and so isn't that bad, just avoid them" instead of PROTECTING THE VICTIM (who is often a CHILD) and it's infuriating. I don't care how much you like someone or their craft, when do we care about the real damage that's done? When does "being likeable" stop giving a pass?!

I want to point out, in regards to the Ashton Kutcher/Mila Kunis/Danny Masturbateson issue, it wasn't only Ashton and Mila who wrote letters to the judge asking for leniency. Kurtwood Smith and Debra Jo Rupp, the actors who played Red and Kitty Foreman, respectively, also sent in letters, though I've not seen anywhere near as much attention given to them as I have Ashton and Mila. Food for thought.

I’m a frequent blood donator (gallon pin holder❤ ) but ARC failed to state that they are also short staffed & blood donation drives are often flooded with people waiting to donate but can’t wait 1-2 hours (even with appointments) so they end up having to leave. The American Red Cross needs to staff their donation sites so that quicker donations can take place. People can’t wait around for hours to donate. We are working and taking care of our families in the roughest economic situation in a while- we don’t have the time to waste.

Not going to lie Phil, I really like the implementation of "Yesterday Today" discussing the responses from the community. I really hope that you continue that, should make it a more regular segment, perhaps by prioritizing the stories that get the most significant feedback (Significant as in what engaged the community into discussion, explanation, and exploration the most, not just which was "loudest")

Years ago, I was at a work Christmas party and a coworker roofied/spiked my drink. Nobody believed me because "he was such a nice guy"

Thankfully I wasn't SA'd because someone called my boyfriend to come pick me up.

I have turned down so much because I'm scared that's going to happen again.

Similar to Kathy's experience regarding the Danny Masterson story, my father was a pedophile. We found out last December, and within a week of discovering this and letting my brothers know, I called the cops, he was arrested and released on conditions with a court date, and a month later, he committed suicide. 30 years of memories. Years of him showing up to every soccer game, every musical and play I was in, being my most fervent supporter and never being afraid to show everyone how proud he was of me and my brothers.

NONE OF THAT MATTERED AFTER I FOUND OUT WHAT HE DID. Is it okay for you to be saddened and confused after finding out things like that? Of course. In my case, that's my dad. 30 years of memories don't just go away overnight when you find out someone you love has done horrible things. Do I miss my dad? Obviously. Will I continue to hold onto the good memories I have with him? Obviously. Am I going to defend what he did? ABSOLUTELY NOT.

Knowing someone doesn't preclude you from calling them out and holding them accountable for the monstrous things they do.

The history of Ashton Kutcher finding his murdered date is not speculation. it has been confirmed by LA police. They knew he was lying about "just peering through the window", and Kutchers lying would have been made mincemeat off by the defense of the murderer. In the end, the killer got away and murdered again. It was at the trial of the second murder that Kutcher testified (again sticking to his story of never having seen his dead date).

Ashton and Mila both have always rubbed me the wrong way. The "apology" video made things worse because they are too haughty to admit they were wrong about anything, further victimizing the victims essentially by saying " silly you, you misunderstood what we said..", the video comes across as them "correcting" the victims and being annoyed by having to do so. Serious prise and ego there in the two of them, their careers are likely finished.

The LAPD actually confirmed what Christina said about Ashton and the murder case

Vice used to be this great news source for stuff you even heard of and now it's accepting blood money and pivoting away from what made Vice great in the first place

As a Moroccan from the region, the devastation is immense. The region affected is 6000km in radius and in mountainous terrain. Since Saturday morning we are working my family and I to sort and go through donations for the remote villages. In the midst of such devastation, I am proud of my people. The solidarity among locals is insane. Every hour on the hour trucks filled with basic foodstuffs, tents, water … are arriving from all over the country. We have a Moroccan saying that goes « we can falter but we don’t fall » This is what’s happening. We were hit hard but we will not fall. We mourn our dead and keep working for the survivors

Your entire personal conversation around fiber, pasta, weight and everything overall sounds very reasonable. Pooping once every 3 days would make me feel like I'm overweight because of the accumulation, but pooping 3 times a day would make me think I'm suffering from the flu or other disease. Knowing this is the normal range helps me get a grip on reality that it is going to be ok.

I was a phlebotomist at a plasma center for a little over a year, I was also trained to fix the machines when they would break down, which was basically everyday since the machines were from the 1980s, well long story short I stopped working there because I found out each bottle of plasma was being sold by the plasma center for about $5, 000-$8, 000 while I was getting paid only a few dollars above minimum wage and my benifits so so bad i may as well of not had any, all this even though im handling a biohazard at work and they were never paying donors more than $80 a donation. That only happened if they donated 2x a week every week for the month AND there were special deals going on. The average payout for a donation was about $30-$45. So when I found out how much of a profit was being made and how little the workers and the donors were making, I left. The red cross is just as bad if not worse because they also don't pay very well and they don't even pay their donors anything but sell the blood bags to hospitals for extremely high prices
The whole industry revolves around money and it should revolve around helping people

Blood donations in the US is such a conflictive topic.
Back in Spain, if you need blood, you get blood. There is insurance, no bill, no nothing between you and the blood that you need. People see donating blood almost as a civic duty, but on top of that, you know that one day, you may benefit from it. But not only you. It is everyone. It feels like a fair system and people willingly participate on it.

However, in the US, most people who donate blood would be denied a blood transfusion because they do not have the resources, or they would find themselves in crippling medical debt. So if you are poor, you are basically donating blood for the rich. It feels so unfair.

The same goes for organs. Spain has the largest ratio of all donations and transplants in the world, because we have a system in which no matter if you are rich or poor, all the organs in the country are counted in the same list, in which you enter with a level of priority given by emergency, age, chances of survival, etc., but not your bank account. People are proud to become organ donors upon death, because we know that everybody will be given a chance, not only us but also not only rich people.

Why would anyone donate in the US, when it is literally given your kidneys for free to a rich old guy who can afford them?

Thank you for mentioning the blood shortage. It’s so easy to get wrapped up in our own lives and problems, and I forget to donate regularly. Many people I love are only alive because of blood donation, and I’m grateful for the reminder to do my part ❤

Yashar Ali and Kristina Ricci said it best.
I was genuinely surprised when I heard that they did that since they had to know it would go public because of there social status. That and also people change, just because someone was amazing back in the day, doesn’t mean they still are to this day. Or the secrets they have behind closed doors or away from peoples eyes.Curious to see how this ends.

I think it's VERY easy to get blinded by the whole "I know him, he's such a nice guy" trick. When I was in college, I had a bunch of friends write character letters for this guy I went to high school with. His college was going to kick him out for sexual assault. All my friends were so vocal about supporting women and believing women but the minute someone they knew was accused, they said there was no way. I did not write the letter but the peer pressure was pretty intense
