This crash received a lot of coverage in Sweden as the Swedish goalkeeper Stefan Liv was on that plane. He was a beloved player and helped his club HV71 become Swedish champions 3 times. After the crash his number 1 was retired by HV71, the road to their arena was renamed Stefan Livs väg and the price for the MVP of the knock-outs was renamed Stefan Liv Memorial Award
