In this virtual speech and Q+A hosted by Coram, Gavin Williamson outlines how an overly bureaucratic system that places too high a burden on potential adopters is putting people off coming forward to adopt. In this speech, which coincides with National Adoption Week 2020, the Education Secretary says “too many judgements” are made on potential adopters, with the consequence that there are not enough adoptive parents to go around. He goes on to explain how he is urging local authorities and agencies to help break down these barriers so that we can unite more children with the families they deserve.
