Greetings to the mighty Spartans: we share the same fate. Our cities were voted to war, and as warriors our history survives through our people, not our monuments. We fought together in Alalia, Lemnos, Illyria and many other places. Long live the Sparta, salutes from Perugia, etruscan city (Italia). 𐌀𐌍𐌖𐌓𐌄𐌐 + 𐌀𐌕𐌓𐌀𐌐𐌔

It's incredible how there's basically almost nothing left from the golden age of the Spartan society.. that was mainly due to a lack of interest from the Spartans in preserving their cultural heritage, maybe because the art of war is not something you could preserve like a Parthenon or theater..

“Our ancestors built this wall your scouts provided the mortar” “Xerxes faces free men here not slaves” Lessons in patriotism i love it.. I wish they preserved more of Sparta though.. My family came to America from Italy.. i always wanted to see Italy and sparta where the great spartan hero’s stood and fought to protect their land and homes and families.. They will truly be remembered for all time just like they said in the movie 300..

There is something deeply unsettling about visiting a city which was so wondrous and awe-inspiring in the past, and to know that in the centuries since nothing in its place has come close to rivaling such past greatness. All one can do in such a moment is to gaze upon the ruins of that once great civilization, and to wonder at its passing. Such is Sparta.

Our renewed fascination with Sparta, is essentially down to a then young up and coming British historian by the name of Bettany Hughes, whose passion and knowledge for the topic gained a whole new young audience, and her book and documentary The Spartans, led to the making of The 300 movies, and we are still fascinated because of her..p.s., Want to know about Ancient Greece 🇬🇷, Bettany Hughes is a good go to
