From Pre-K to 6th grade, my daughter used some form of Abeka curriculum...some years the full curriculum and some years just 1 or 2 pieces. This video highlights our journey with Abeka and details our favorite and least favorite Abeka subjects....those that we would use again and those that we would not use.

I have used Abeka’s science, history, math, language arts, and health/manners in different years from 1st-3rd grade and I think they are absolutely wonderful for my son! We will be starting third grade and plan to still use Abeka’s language arts and math but then I don’t expect to use Abeka anymore for several years for the older years. The Language arts program is strong, the science and history are welcoming and accessible to young minds while not being overwhelming to the parent, and for us, the math was an absolute perfect fit for my son and I am so thankful. It was exactly what we needed. I didn’t even know they had flashcards till now and the only thing he struggles a little with is math facts. We started with Singapore math (the classroom version) for kinder and first grade, but in first grade, Singapore started to lose my son and we switched to Abeka math, which he has been very responsive to and retains all of it with practical understanding. It may not be for everyone, but I think all of Abeka has a place on the shelf for some people, maybe just in different seasons. I wanted to continue with Abeka math past 3rd grade, but I don’t like the colors/visuals of the 4th grade and up books. If they update their product, I may change my mind. I plan to switch to Math U See, BJU Press Math, or Memoria Press Rod and Staff Math, depending on what my son needs, in case anyone was curious.

I went to a private school from 3rd grade to 8th grade and I agree with everything you are saying about abeka. It was very solid with language arts and grammar but lacked in writing. The history and science was exactly what you said. The same thing over and over again. I was bored the most with those subjects and walked away without a good understanding of them.

Thanks for this through and honest review. We plan to use Abeka for preschool. My youngest is 2 almost 3. I have purchased a few of the preschool items already.😊

Love your bulletin board behind you and would love to see more of it!

I grew up with math memorization too so that may be why I’m moving towards Abeka math so much and I’ve tired the good and beautiful, and math with confidence. Math with confidence explains why but way too many games. Good and beautiful was awful for us. Eh homeschool so many options.

What did you switch to for Science? My daughter is hands on experiments too but I just love how simple they teach Science so I am torn…
