How long after the water breaks do contractions come? How long should I wait after my water breaks?

My water before contractions. It was hours and hours before I had any contractions, and because they were worried about cord prolapse so I had to be in bed on my back for a whole day and a half before I finally went in for a c section. Not my ideal first birth experience, but your information has been very helpful for my next birth experience- if I have one that is haha

My water broke with no contractions. Called the hospital nd they asked how many weeks i was 37 nd was asked to come. When they checked i was 4cm dilated no contractions.
