The other day I was talking to my wife about my teaching business and I love it when we can get time to talk about this because my wife comes up with some really good ideas from time to time. Ok, so I used the phrasal verb there: to come up with - to come up with something, or to come up with an idea, and this just means to generate an idea or to think about an idea.
So, we use this a lot when we're talking about being creative; when we're thinking about solutions for problems or just thinking about ideas in general. Now, what I said to her was this: you always come up with good ideas you always come up with good ideas. Now, if you're talking to someone and they come up with a bad idea, something that you can say to them is this: is that the best you can come up with? Is that the best you can come up with? And basically, you're letting them know that their idea isn't very good. Is that the best you can come up with? T
here's another phrase I want to share and I used this with my wife before we had a conversation, and I usually ask her this question: can I bounce some ideas off you? Can I bounce some ideas off you?
And what this means is that I want to tell my wife some ideas that I have - to tell her about the ideas that I've come up with, and if I want to bounce ideas off her, and I want her to listen and for her to give me feedback. So, this is a great phrase to use if you want feedback on your ideas: can I bounce some ideas off you?
I have one more example to share and then a question for you. Now, in my case, I come up with my best ideas in the shower. So, when I'm in the shower, I always come up with my best ideas - it's never when I'm at work but it's when I'm taking a shower. What I want to know is this: where do you come up with your best ideas? So, in which situations do you come up with your best ideas? I'm looking forward to reading your response, so please leave a comment below. If you have found this lesson useful, please share with your friends and I'll see you in the next video!
