Fun fact about Adidas and Puma: The Dassler brothers founded a shoe factory after WW II but soon after got in a major fight about how to lead the company. They split and ADI DASsler founded ADIDAS while Rudolph Dassler founded Puma. Both companies still reside in the small town of Herzogenaurach (Northern Bavaria), just about a mile away from each other.

13:55 the teachers tell the parents what would be the best option for the kids based on how they did in elementary school but in most states that is not binding and parents have the final say. You can also always switch between schools

The parents decide which higher School their kids go but what he forget to mention: It is possible to switch the path your parents decided later. In the end theoretically every kid could take a path to visit University.

5:36 _Europes tornado alley_
It's not what Americans would think of as a tornado. We often have strong winds (storm, hurricane), some of which also damage our forests, but usually our houses, roads and other structures are quite stable and well protected. It can sometimes happen that roofs are damaged, but this does not happen very often.

5:55 _Bread in germany_
We have more than 3000 types of bread.

6:13 _Different sausages in germany_
In Germany we have more than 1500 different types of sausage (we need them for over 3000 types of bread). Not all in the form of a sausage, but sliced.

7:58 _Who you are rocking more_
In my personal opinion, I think Adidas would win.

13:53 _different kind of schools_
First of all, the performance of the child decides on the further type of school. Then, of course, the parents also have a right to make decisions, but normally, in consultation with the child's class teacher, they choose the highest possible school type in order to give the child the best education.

15:20 _National pride_
Pride is a big word. You can only be proud of something you have achieved yourself. We're not proud to be german, we are glad to be german.

15:56 _you are allowed to talk about_
Yes, we can freely talk about it, we even teach this subject in school.. Denying, downplaying, or lying about the past is not allowed. And we're doing everything we can to ensure this never happens again

For the speech thing: The illegal part is denying that it happened. It's being talked about a lot in school and public discourse constantly.

The witches that you mentioned are in deed called „Hexen“ which translates to witches. It is a very old traditional figure in the „Schwäbisch Alemannische Fasnet“ - Kind of a karneval but totally different in its roots but celebrated in the part of the year. I have been in such a culture group in which every member has his own individual mask made out of wood and the tradition traces back hundreds of years back in time. Ist was supposed to scare of the winterghosts to welcome springtime

15:58 „are Germans NOT allowed to talk about Nazi History?“ No, it is part in every school history class, also mostly the visit of a memorial concentration camp.

14:00 Sadly, it's mostly the teachers choosing where one should go...

But parents and children can intervene, when they're not happy with the planned outcome from the teachers .. there are ways to get your way..

If you're clearly capable of "upgrading your education". ;)

The scene in 10:30 is a swabian tradition called "Fasching" or "Fasnacht" and starts every year on 6th of January. It's compareable to colognes "Carneval" where dressed up groups just Follow a street and present their costumes. This goes in hand with many beer tents and you will find these processions in many small villages all over the northeastern Baden-Württemberg.

Translating Vergangenheitsbewältigung" with "lingering sense of guilt from the past" is not quite on point. "Dealing/coming to terms with the past" is better.
It doesn't make sense to say that we today carry some form of guilt of what happened in the past. We do however carry a responsibility to ensure something like this can never happen again. This "never again" is a central motif in modern german identity.

The thing about the Volksverhetzungs law is the following: You can talk about everything and show everything about the war and the nazi regime as long as it is for education and not for propaganda. There are certain songs and movies that are forbidden too. Mostly propaganda against jews or other groups. You are just not allowed to own nazi items like flags, hitler busts or anything that would be interesting for neo nazi collectors. We wan't to prevent "holy items" and
"pilgrimage sites" for the far right. You can't deny the holocaust, play down genocides or make non satirical jokes about it, show nazi symbols, or say something really bad against any race, nationality or religious group. There are some loopholes but these are satire acts. Satirists are allowed to talk about genocides and races in a mocking manner as long as it is not meant and clearly an act to parody someone (Hitler parodies or etc.). It's crazy that the US doesn't have a smiliar law, as you have a more diverse population than germany. Most race related insults would fall under this law. So any dude that would call you the n word, say stuff about cotton fields and you being his slave can go to prison for saying that. I'm happy that we have this law. We have a lot of laws like this to protect people of all shapes from hate. Even the first article of our basic law is "The dignity of man is inviolable."

By the way, I recommend you to bring more German content, I bet more than half of the comments come from German. We just love how the Americans react to us. " Wow, ... look at this German window, it can tilt ; ) "

The school bit actually has sort of an opening upwards: you can in technically get into the lower end (Hauptschule) than get to the next higher school from there (Realschule) and afterwards transfer to a top end school(Gymnasium)... it's just more complicated to do so.
I myself went to realschule first and then went to a Gymnasium to reach University. (so practically the way I mentioned before just starting with the middle school instead of Hauptschule)

While technically correct, it isn't "more than 300 types of bread", it is "more than 3.000 types of bread"!

And another thing: The state pension is at age 67, not 65. It was at age 65 for a long time, but has been raised in the early 2000s. Only people who were born before 1964can get pension at 65. People born after 1964 have to tough it out till 67.

14:32 the thing with the german school system is that it isn't neccecaryly a job oriented system. It's more to split the intelligence in to 3 groups. If kids in elementary school have good grades they usually go to the gymnasium afterwards where the intensety and densety of the schooling is higher then the other forms. People that went there usually study and are the ones that become doctors, engeneers and teacher etc. If you were kind of middle good in school you go to the Realschule where you still go deep in to topics but you don't go in to the extremely hard topics. It's more of an allround schooling where you have the choice of either working afterwards or going to school for couple more years and get the degree that you get in the Gymnasium. If you were bad in school you go to the Hauptschule. The topics aren't done in great detail and you basicly get the minimum of schooling needed to go through life. These students typicly end up in low level jobs or physicly demanding jobs. The time that you go to school also differs. Gymnasium is 12/13 years, Realschule is 10 years and Hauptschule is 9 years. This schooling system gives every student an environment best suited for them
