Polydipsia is excessive thirst or excessive fluid intaking. Most commonly water.
In patients who drink large amounts of water, the kidneys compensate by excreting water up to a maximum of 12 Liter per day.

It can be caused by vomiting, diarrhea, medications like furosemide and steroids, dialysis, diabetes insipidus, hyperaldosteronism, hypomagnesemia, and not enough intake in the diet.

It's not water. Not true. It's whatever liquid you have around you. I had 8 scotch and cokes, and I don't even drink. Kept putting my hand up. So thirsty. I've had 2L of orange juice when it was meant to be brought home. Same with milk. The best way to quench it is bobba iced teas x2, and sweet drinks like coke. Anything else may keep you thirsty.
