Easy Hydroponic Tomato
How to grow hydroponic tomatoes, the easy way. In our previous video we showed you how to plant Roma tomatoes in 5 gallon buckets with net cup lids. We also placed some in our small NFT system. Here is how they did.

The reason Hydroponic Tomato's don't split open is because they always have all the water they need and don't get a rush of water, like from a heavy rain storm. Great video and good looking Tomato's! God bless and keep on growing & making more videos to teach the rest of us!

the hole at the bottom of the netpot is smart, thanks for the tip.

Great suggestions about drilling the hole in the bucket so if it rains, the oxygen roots will not drown. .

I spent the holiday doing my gardening from under a patio umbrella. It was great sitting in a chair, filling nutrient buckets, cutting noodles, and inserting plants. Hydroponic gardening is awesome. Fast forward to today, and I would like to pass on an observation. I have been bringing home red, and blue coffee containers from work. I have hundreds of them. Some I have painted, or covered with tape. Others I have left plain. My observation today was that the red containers have long strings of algae growing from the bottom of the roots. The blue containers are still clean, and clear. My priority will now be to get the reds covered, and then move on to the blues. I hope this helps somebody.

Nice instructive video. I drill a 1/2" or so hole and cover it with a screen hot glued on the inside to keep out bugs, especially mosquitos! I cut a hole in the 5 gallon bucket lid for the netcup. If you lean the buckets slightly, most rainwater will drain off the top cover; even a hard rain would only raise the nutrient level very slightly. Cracking? Tomatoes crack when the ground roots get dried out during a heatwave; thus the skin hardens. Then when the plants gets watered, the thickened skin cannot enlarge and it busts. For this same reason, never soak fresh tomatoes once picked because they will crack! Experience taught me that one! ;-(

Nice to see you growing tomatoes Mike. Burpee seed company says the Roma VF has around an 18" spread. I find with Kratky hydroponics, the plants get a bit larger. Cool to see you start with one plant, root daughter plants, and keep that cycle of tomatoes producing.

We just bought a house and the yard and gardens are amazing. I want to add some things so I am going to do this. I have a space in the garage loft to grow in the winter. Thanks man!

from what ive read, the reason tomatoes split open is after a dry spell, their skins thicken to retain moisture, then when it rains and they get abundant moisture, it ruptures the skin. i.e. they need regulated moisture to not split. love your vids. im starting some static hydroponics this weekend and most of the ideas are from you. thank you very much.

Cool I've been thinken bout putting a hole LOL guess my dought was comen from lazyness of moving plants to bigger pots LOL ok good I'll add the hole cuz the air roots REALLY don't like getting wet AT ALL

I'm finding it interesting how these plants go from dirt to hydroponics BUT NOT so much do the plants like going from the hydroponics into dirt SO FUNNY playing back & forth this way thought me another self watering system I'm testing out LOL ya I have dirt in a tuna can with a clothish rope going 1 end in the dirt other end in a masterblend container IT'S WORKING really nice especially for starting the difficult plants like celery = the rope drinks the water and the dirt sucks it up keeping the seed at a steady dampness threw germination into ready for transfer into hydro or dirt = this stuff is so cool thank you for figuring it out & sharing it on you tube - I'm really grateful thank you
