Empyrion Galactic Survival - First Look, Environment Exploration Demo

Empyrion is a 3D open world, space survival adventure in which you can fly across space and land on planets. Build, explore, fight and survive in a hostile galaxy full of hidden dangers.

The procedurally generated, vast galaxy features endless space, asteroids, planets, and fierce enemies. Empyrion is about building and survival in this hostile galaxy. You can build everything out of blocks and building parts like in Minecraft: large starships, small spaceships, space and planetary stations, as well as facilities such as mining robots and solar panels. Your mobile home base is a self-created starship (your mothership) that is able to fly from planet to planet and warp between solar systems. To access and explore a planet, you build one or several, small spaceships that can enter the planet’s orbit and land on the planet’s surface. Equip your mothership and spaceships with weapons to defend yourself against other players and NPC enemies.

A fellow YouTube let me know about this game and it was rather interesting.

He's right, a little competition is good. Mabey this will encourage SE to introduce planets. That would be amazing.

To those who are saying that this is a rip-off this is just inspired by it and so far looks better in every way

General reply to some commentors, this isn't a ripoff, it is probably INSPIRED by space engineers, but it was developed differently, and is different.

Seems like a fair plan, but without mod support (community AND dev side!) on the level of at least SE, it'll quickly wither and die. After so long watching games like Scrumble Ship and Blockade Runner Master Space die off, I've become a tad bitter with the whole situation.

I don't think the comparison to Space Engineers is fair at this point, perhaps later on in development. It'd be like comparing a rough sketch to a nearly-finished painting in quality. Ripping it apart because its similar (or indeed 'copying' SE) is just disgustingly caustic. Do you guys want this sort of genre to expand, or are we going to go wallow back in the generic blandness of modern FPS while we wait for another SE update?

Space Engineers with planets? This looks like Space Engineers with planets.

People here keep on saying this is a ripoff of space engineers. Though as many of you guys said before Space Engineers is not a WAR based game. The thing I dislike about SE is that most large ships you build are just for cosplay. Very limited weapons, not optimized well and for me I want my ships to go in battle when built.

The designers of this game probably said to themselves lets make a battle/war ready version of S engineers. Also this looks alot more promising, it has fully rendered planets for ground wars, good array of weapons, more realistic survival based elements such as growing food. But most for me it looks very battle ready. I like SE but at times to lagginess of large battles to this day still put me off. I build ships for no reason, just to look at :( though why I'm I complaining? it is called Space "Engineers" lol

If anything, this game existing might actually encourage the developers of Space Engineers to add more on-foot combat options, food, oxygen etc. Something people have been asking for for ages.

A cross between Space Engineers and Starmade? This is exactly what I wanted! :D

"Inspired" is a very gentle word for this. Even so, doesn't necessarily make it a bad thing, but I would warn people to be cautious with their expectations of this. Space Engineers has so far demonstrated a very mature and methodical development process from KSH. They're doing things in a sensible working order, and keeping things open and honest. Empyrion however has plenty clearly rushed out only exactly enough semi functional features, to show off in their trailer out and get people hyped into buying in based on exploitable imagination and big promises.

They may well turn out to still be a great team, and may make a great game, but so far I'm sceptical and more than willing to wait and see how this does before buying. Anyone that got excited about Starforge back in March 2012, might know what I'm talking about.

such a fantastic game, and an especially good piece of competition for space engineers. being a fan of both games, I will not say one is better than the other overall. both are fantastic and I wish the best for each one

at the beginning of the video, it looks like they heavily modded space engineers. its really interesting, its like what some space engineers players have been wanting: to land on planets and such

You should check out Rodina. The dev has some nice things for it planned, like hacking an enemy ship and boarding it to. Just think, gun fights with an alien race, on their ship, in a different solar system. No loading screens, a customizable ship interior, and randomly generated, full sized, planets. (A great story line to.)

They should team up with space engineers devs, and make an ultra über awesome game :P
