Bringing the enhanced back! Refurbing an Atari 1040 STe

In this video I take an Ebay sourced US version Atari 1040 ste through it's paces. We clean it up, test it out, try and try again, and try again to fix the floppy drive...only to eventually give up and replace it with an already working one. Gotek details to come in a future video.

Great to see a 1040 STe on your channel! My 1040STe has developed a fair amount of video noise in the picture, recently. I swapped power supplies which resulted in no change. I'm currently pondering re-capping the entire system.

I find the neatness impressive, compared to my recall of the more chaotic ST boards, especially that line of blue transistors next to the JagPad ports (least I think their transitors, with the 3 legs)?

I loved my STe back in the day! I currently have two that I need to fix up - both are UK machines, not NA unfortunately.

Great video. I am subbed but usually watch on a TV under a guest profile. I never had the Atari growing up (Vic 20 then PCs) but have recently snagged a couple at estate sales, probably paid too much, and no idea of status as yet. 800XL and a 1040STe with a 14" colour monitor...but no mouse and no cables for power or video, so have to hunt online a bit. Regardless, enjoy the content and hope to give my new beasties similar treatment.

Love your videos. Is the STE DMA a real problem? I've read that early STE's were shipped with the wrong DMA's that make using a HDD impossible? Have you seen that some people replace the PSU with a modern Mean Well PSU, do you have any thoughts on this?

Interesting - I didn't realize that non-Mega STes shipped with TOS 2.06 (unless the last person upgraded it). I had 1.62 on my machine - would be interesting to see the differences.
