The closest thing I've seen to correct on this subject since 1967 is Sabine Hossenfelder PHD thesis. The Russian's and Ukrainian Scientist learned from events such as Mayak, Kyshtym and Subs that went bump in the nights. Many applicable translated Nuclear abstract found in the CIA's advance search engine. " currently searching: 31 Dec 1967 TAU" will bring some up.

Fission releases energy when heavy unstable elements split, fusion releases energy when light stable element combine. It took him 5 minutes to say that.
