Why did Han Solo of all people have a Jedi training remote on the Millennium Falcon? A couple years before the events of A New Hope, Han and Chewie were hired by Jabba the Hutt to recover a mysterious urn. Several other parties were interested, including a man masquerading as Han’s long lost father, Ovan. The man’s true identity was Corbus Tyra, a notorious criminal and thief. After betraying Han, Corbus used a Marksman-H training remote to attack the young smuggler and steal the urn. But Han eventually defeated Corbus, and the training remote became his property, likely gathering dust on the Falcon ever since.

I always assumed Obi-Wan brought a few things with him from his hut to use for Luke's training.

"Dude claimed to be my dad and used that thing to try and kill me. Sure, you can use it, I guess."

I seem to recall one of the older books stating that gunfighters like Han used remotes to practice quickdraws and marksmanship by basically playing laser tag, and so remotes weren't specifically Jedi tools.

As a kid, I assumed Ben had brought it. Because that makes sense. It’s not something that needed retconning.

I mean, the actual reason is that in 1977 the droid wasn’t intended to have anything to do with the Jedi Order and this scene was just Ben using whatever he could find on the Falcon to slap together some makeshift training for Luke, but I suppose an overly convoluted comic story works too.

I always assumed that Ben had it with him just for this purpose. I never thought one would be just lying around.

Han probably kept so he could sell later but I prefer the idea Obi-Wan kenobi brought the training remote with him

Haha I always assumed it was in Obi Wan’s luggage.

The Marksman-H training remote was widely used, not just by Jedi but the Imperial Navy, Bounty Hunters, or anyone wanting to train against incoming laser fire. There's no reason why Han, or any scoundrel, wouldn't have one. It was never called a "Jedi" Training Remote onscreen and there's no reason to think only Jedi use them.

I always assumed Obiwan just brought it along…

Outside of that lore, It's just a training remote. Han likely uses it for target practice.

The old canon just said it was a training remote commonly used for blaster training

Mini Death Star's are always good to have around.

Never thought it had anything to do with Jedis. Just a general blaster training droid not specially built for lightsabers.

I always thought that it was Obi-Wan Kenobi.

Wait I thought Ben had it, and just brought it along since he knew he would need to start training Luke

Not canon, but given the fact that the Empire used them alongside probe droids in Dark Forces, I always assumed they were standard security hardware that the Jedi used for training purposes.

In nearly 50 years I've never once wondered or cared. Not everything needs an explanation.

When I was young I thought Han had used to practice fire fights. It's just the Jedi used them as well because it's effective.
