If You Can Believe Your Eyes & Ears (1966)

Lyrics:
You gotta go where you want to go
Do what you want to do
With whoever you want to do it with

You gotta go where you want to go
Do what you want to do
With whoever you want to do it with

You don't understand
That a girl like me can love just one man
Three thousand miles, that's how far you'll go
And you said to me please don't follow

'Cause you gotta go where you want to go
Do what you want to do
With whoever you want to do it with

You gotta go where you want to go
Do what you want to do
With whoever you want to do it with

You don't understand
That a girl like me can love just one man
You've been gone a week, and I tried so hard
Not to be the cryin' kind
Not to be the girl you left behind

You gotta go where you want to go
Do what you want to do
With whoever you want to do it with

You gotta go where you want to go
Do what you want to do
With whoever you want to do it with

You gotta go where you want to go
Do what you want to do
With whoever you want to do it with

I fell in love during this time and never stoped loving the man I married, although some times I wished that I didn't love him like I did. This group was always part of our memories together. even now, he has passed, this song still gives me goosebumps as someone else said. The Mamas and Papas were amazing and the harmony excellent. I always felt that I was the girl in this song loved just one man now at 83 this song still speaks to me.

All these years later this song continues to blow my mind. The syncopation, harmony, intensity ... everything about it is just fantastic.

I'm 39 years old and wish I grew up in the 70s. The 80s and 90s was pure gold, but the 60s and 70s was pure originality.

When I was in high school, if I was depressed, I used to play this, then go for a drive in my little Volkswagen just to cheer myself up.  It worked!

They are outstanding vocalists backed by outstanding musicians-the LA sessions players known as the Wrecking Crew!

That Laurel Canyon sound...Buffalo Springfield, The Byrds, Mamas and The Papas, Beach Boys, and so many more....I would have loved to have had a house in Laurel Canyon during 1965 thru early 1970's...

When I was a little kid (1970's), my older Bro would take me out of the house when my parents were fighting, to keep me safe. We would just go around in his pretty and immaculate red car, driving, and the radio was always on. I would sing along to all the great songs; I knew 'em all. Even though my Bro would say I sang in the cracks. A very good memory from a sad childhood.

Saw them in concert at Fordham University in NYC in 1966. They brought the house down.
This great song was a highlight

The video makes me homesick for the past. A simpler time.

I love that you can clearly hear all four voices in the chorus.

when I grew up in Chicago and visited cousins in Calif in 1967, i couldnt accept go back to Chicago ever.
It wasnt my real home anymore. These singers grasped this feeling going to the Golden State, they're music represented how they felt moving to the new frontier
It changed us all forever

Damn John...Great writting. Cass and Mitch's harmony is yes, Denny and Johns harmony pretty good too.

This was my favorite song of the Mamas and Papas. Mama Cass really did a beautiful job of lead singing. Her voice is easy to recognize in all of the songs and records
