Amy, if you had not made the flour slurry the ratio would have been correct. The syrup from the cooked apples is absorbed into the crust. It bubbles up around the dollops of dough. Cooking the apples first was a nice touch, but totally unnecessary. My mother and grandmother made apple cobbler all the time. They taught me. We had numerous apple trees. We had to do something with them. Doubling the recipe is a great idea but try using a 13 X9 cake pan. I'm glad you added cinnamon, I do. To me it's like butter, everything is better with cinnamon!

Worth adding vanilla essence to the batter mix, really adds to the flavour.
