I wish the GEM would fully open. Once it is fully open, I will travel there and see it for myself.

To be clear: the Egyptian Museum in Cairo strained under the onslaught from the failed Arab Spring which took place there. It was deemed necessary to remove the collection from inner city Cairo both for safety and for tourism, Egypt's greatest financial resource

The investors of this project obviously feel the Egyptian museum is Tahrir square is not big enough, and not every tourist who visits the Pyramids also visitited Tahrir square museum. But knowing the Egyptians they don't do anything straight forward. Queuing up for an hour to get it won't help without having an online sales.

It will never change history if they can't realize Egypt is way older than they realize 💯 open your minds

They made it twice the size necessary, in case England decides to give back all their stolen artifacts!

When Napoleon arrived in Egyp the Pyramids where under sand. When the British empire arrived in Egyp, most part of the tombs have been sacked, and its treasures melt down for precious metal.

Cool, but all that money could have been spent on protecting other archeological sites that are in terrible conditions.

You mean it would revise history by making the Egyptians look more white and less like how they depicted themselves as black indigenous Africans? what a shocking waste of $1 billion.

I would love to see it, but Egypts support of Hamas through the Philadelphia Corridor was a big disappointment. I won't spend 1 cent in an Arab country.
