Perth Concert Hall Auditorium: 3D Laser Scan Survey by RM Surveys
TRANSCRIPT:
Brendon Ellmer, General Manager Perth Concert Hall
“The Perth Concert Hall was opened on Australia Day in 1973 by the then Prime Minister Gough Whitlam. It’s since established itself as the premier acoustic venue I believe in Australia but certainly in Western Australia. It’s a big venue but I believe has a really intimate feel, it’s a really beautiful place.
This is the first time a survey of this sort of quality has ever been done on the Perth Concert Hall.”
Neil Foster, Surveyor RM Surveys
“We felt that doing terrestrial laser scanning was a much better option to provide an informative deliverable.
This is like a p40 scan station, capable of doing up to a million points per second. We’re just going to set up a medium resolution scan and capture colour photography at the same time.”
Brendon Ellmer, General Manager Perth Concert Hall
“The Perth concert Hall engaged RM Surveys to carry out this work because they demonstrated to us that they could deliver what we basically needed, which was an incredibly accurate and 3 dimensional plan of the Concert hall
As a non-surveyor just looking at it is incredibly impressive”
Neil Foster, Surveyor, RM Surveys
“Point cloud data can be delivered in a variety of ways as either or all point cloud. Or, we can also create a planned view of a particular site, or we can go right to the high-end level of creating rivet models that have been compliant and are a full 3d Building Information Model”
Brendon Ellmer, General Manager Perth Concert Hall
“What’s particularly exciting for the incoming concert promoters is the ability for lighting designers to use the accurate measurements to produce some stunning lighting and projection results which we’re really excited about.
We’re also hoping to expand, the West Australian Symphony orchestra really needs a rehearsal space and it would be a great opportunity in the future redevelopment of this building to actually build that space and for them to be able to move of the main stage and into that space on a more permanent basis.”
Neil Foster, Surveyor RM Surveys
“We feel privileged to do our work on behalf of the Perth Concert hall and hopefully be involved in the transformation of this fantastic facility.”
