Suleiman the Magnificent, the longest-reigning Sultan of the Ottoman Empire. And King Philip II of Spain, who lead Spain to the height of influence and power, and also of its artistic, literary, and musical excellence. Thank you for your excellent video.

James I mother was executed on orders of Queen Elizabeth, not her father.

Gustav Adolph, Louis XIV, and Frederic the Great YES. Peter I YES if it is a MONARCHs list rather than Kings (he was an Emperor). James I shouldn't be in this league. If we include Emperors from the XVI to XVIII Century, then Charles V of the HRE/Spain, Maria Theresa of Austria (though technically her primary regnant title was Queen, as she was Empress Consort) and Suleiman the Magnificent should be included. If we include Kings of the same Period, then Phillip II of Spain, Elizabeth I of England, Henri IV of France and maybe Charles III of Spain/Naples should get in the list.

I wonder why you didn't include Phillip II Habsburg and John III Sobieski on this list?

Great job! Your videos are always thorough and well-done. Very enjoyable for a history buff like me to watch. I'll add your channel to my blog roll, the link I'll leave as a followup comment because YouTube tends to remove links.

Edward the Third should have been on this list and also Napoleon Bonaparte .

Hm, I don't know if I'd refer to Charles I as 'unlucky' - it wasn't mere misfortune that led to his execution - like his father, he was a proponent of the divine right of kings and refused to temper his tyrannical absolutism, thus fomenting the English Civil War, and even worse, he wanted to return the kingdom to popery, a deeply unpopular policy. But apart from that quibble, I greatly enjoyed this informative video (o:

James unqualified mr mediocre
Charlemagne + Napoleon = emperors. Overqualified
Eastern France bigger than Ireland so Henry V is hired. Congrats!

James I was a weak king led by the nose by his favorites. A totally lousy choice on your part.

Another one worthy of inclusion is William of Orange, King of England and Stadholder (quasi-king) of the Netherlands. After deposing his father-in-law James II in the last successful invasion of England, he and his wife Mary Stuart reigned jointly, the only such case in English history. He brought together an international alliance that challenged the dominance of Louis XIV over western Europe, ultimately fighting him to a standoff in the War of the League of Augsburg and the War of the Spanish Succession.

There's also a case for Henri IV of France, who ended his nation's religious civil war and established the House of Bourbon. (He converted from Protestantism to Catholicism to become King.)

Frederick the Great became King at 28, not 20. There some mistakes in your video.

James I as a great king😂😂😂😂
The other 4 are truly great kings though

James is responsible for creating the hysteria of witchcraft that led to thousands of (predominately women) being tortured and killed. Personally, I'd be taking him off the list of "5 Greatest Kings".

Louis XIV was the best one of these 5 and he sucked. That says a lot about the others.
