The boat that Carl and Eva are on my Dad bought 4 years later we commercial-fished it in the early 70's filmed in Fort Bragg Ca. Did not know it was the same boat until we were watching the movie one night and my mom yelled hey that's our boat and sure enough it was the Trident a Monterey haul troller.

Fabulously funny movie.
Detente, for a bit.
A gutsy move?, making this during the Cold War.
Should have won awards.

This is (in my very very humble opinion) a master piece... not of film but of humanity, it was made during the cold war and it's a shrine to the humanity that we all are made of, Russians against the citizens of the country below Canada and above Mexico (i say this way because they like to call themselfs americans, but so are the Brazilians, Equatorians, Venezuelans, Cubans, Uruguayans, Chileans, and all other countries in the american continent), anyway, it's an hymn to humanity versus politics, people beeing human to other people that are human too. Brotherhood.

Did they use real F-101 Voodoo's for the flyovers?

You do that -- Voodoo -- that you do so well.

Amazing to think that the American government and military donated the use of the fighter planes at the height of the Cold War to make a comedy about the very serious nature of the Cold War; but then, it is also amazing to think that they totally appreciated and laughed their butts off at The Kremlin when it was shown there. The entire movie was fair toward the Russians as well as the Americans ... even the opening and closing credits did fair justice to both giving equal time to both the Soviet flag and Russian music and the American counter-part.

Alan Arkin is also great in the movie "Little Murders". Genius.

A very fine and funny movie, very well directed by Norman Jewison in the middle of the Cold War, and promoting understanding and friendship. it's a pity years later we find some unfriendly movies such as "Red Dawn" by John Milius (I must say I do prefer his Conan saga LOL).
