A pad eye isn't a 'hooked groove' a pad eye is the fitting that locks INTO the groove.

US carriers are very large and don't roll as much as you might think. YES, they do get moved around, sometimes violently, but these giant ships are fairly stable for the most part.

I was cringing at the F-16 on a navy carrier part. Then the F-22 crashing into the carrier deck 🤣🤣 although that’s actually accurate as to what would happen with an F-22 without an arresting hook.

Most of the planes are kept on the flight deck and very few that are being maintained are stored in the hanger bay
