So yeah, it's pay to win like most mobile games. You can skip the biggest gap when you start, wich is having nothing. Pay 2 win isnt just I pay and i have more powerful stuff than you, it can also be "I instantly get to certain unlocks and you have to fight me with out them". Fight me on that if you want, but I've died to a guy with 500 trophies that was very much full equiped for that level, so yeah, game can be cool but it's pay to win, don't defend it as "it's more a grind to win" because that's every game that has some sort of progress that makes you stronger. It can be fine, you can monetize it, but you can over tune it and this is what happens here. You just have to look at how they throw you "buy this" tabs so every often.
