Gel Printed Tissue Papers for Collage

Today I am printing some recycled tissue papers to use as collage paper. Using just acrylic paints, a brayer and a gel plate, I create some colourful abstract designs.

I love the way a lot of the prints reminded me of rice paper. And the black papers were absolutely stunning.

When you stated you save all packing papers, it’s a running joke with my friends, as they say, I care more about the packaging than the gift. One of my friends thought she could outsmart me by using grocery bags. Joke was on her, I made vegan leather. Thanks for sharing. Never tire of watching and learning from you. Happy New Year to you!

Great results, and if that black one that looks like a tree was mine, I wouldn't be able to cut it up! Maybe a book cover? I learned a technique many years ago at a textile class, you crumple tissue paper, smooth it out, stick it onto paper whole, paint it, we used Brusho, as that what we were using at the time, (I have 21 year old Brusho that still works, 30 year old embossing powder too!), then PVA or Modpodge, and it looks like leather). ❤

Funnily I’ve just got a large wad of white tissue paper, which I’ve brought fairly cheaply, so going to have some fun with that. I’m also going to stamp onto it too. Thank you for sharing your experiments and discoveries—especially about considering using the “back” of the vintage papers for the paint layers in order to keep the print readable from left to right. Like you, I tend not to care about the legibility of print on the finished product (I do a lot of abstract work, so it doesn’t matter). But for those more “realistic” projects, that’s a great option. And having the paint showing behind the print does have a very nice, more subtle effect. Great video!

Hi Teresa I’m having trouble all my papers are sticking to my plate I’m using pebeo acrylics paints. Any idea what I’m doing wrong I haven’t used tissue paper yet. Iv used yupo paper cartridge card.
