One of the problems here is that most Americans have NEVER been outside the US, much less visited a country with a more authoritarian government.

Have you been in a country where soldiers perform law enforcement?

Have you been in a country where bribing officials is standard practice to obtain the services
Americans receive for free?

Have you been in a country where you could be imprisoned or killed because of your religious beliefs?

Have you been in a country where you could be imprisoned or killed because of your political beliefs?

Have you been in a country where you could be imprisoned or killed because of who you love?

Have you been in a country where transfer of government power is often accomplished through populist insurrections or internal coups?

Too many Americans get hung up on the "who has the best plans and policies?" question. Unfortunately, the unspoken part of that question is usually "who has the best plans and policies FOR ME?"

Authoritarian governments are often great for some people. It's everyone else that suffers.

When deciding between Trump and literally ANYONE else, the ONLY question that really matters is this: Which of the candidates has respect for the form and functions of a democratic republic, and which does not?

If you vote for a candidate who respects the form and functions of a democratic republic, you can always vote for someone else in a few years.

If you vote for a candidate who DOES NOT respect the form and functions of a democratic republic, you may not get another chance to vote.

I'll add on to what you said about not caring about the lesser of two evils and who's good or bad. The thing is when they just focus on why the other person's bad, they ignore the fact that if said bad person wins, it's only 4 years in office. Not a lifetime.

4 years isn't enough to do much of anything. Heck, anything getting done is more feasible if congress and the supreme court are majority, along side the president. Even, not to worried about it.

I’ve raised my kids to be independent thinkers. They gave a tendency to sway 1 direction or another. They at least try to look at the entire landscape. They won’t out right reject things. They still can be swayed be media a bit, just a bit because of how they naturally lean.
