“Akaal” is the debut single from Snatam Kaur’s latest album, Nirankaar, and a profound and uplifting expression of the sacred Sikh mantra of the same name. The word Akaal means, “Beyond or without death,” and is most often chanted to help loved ones who have left their bodies connect with the Infinite. It is similarly chanted for those left behind, helping them to tune into the soul vibration of deathlessness. Chanting Akaal is also a deeply meaningful way to move beyond the limits of death, connect with the nature of the soul, and find love and peace in that realization.

“Akaal” is one of eight tracks on Nirankaar, Snatam’s new album, and is a collaboration with producer Ram Dass on piano and vocals, Grecco Buratto on guitar and vocals, and Sukhmani on percussion and vocals. In addition to singing, Snatam also plays harmonium on the track.

I have been meditating and listening to Simrit Kaur's Akal from her "Sweetest Nectar" album for over ten years. It is a sublime as well as etheric chant. And here comes Snatam Kaur with this video and gives us the second wing to our Bird. While we have already heard her angelic voice gifting us this melody, the arrangement and video puts it all in perspective. There is nothing more profound than to send off beyond our realm those who are departing, and those who have departed, so they can remember us who are left behind, so we do not feel left behind, so they do not feel they left us...until that day, until that day when the cycles of birth and rebirth unite, here or through the ethers, us all together as One. Wahe Guru!

Few weeks ago I lost my beloved Uncle tragically and my Yoga Teacher advised I listen to Akal to honor the departed… it helped me so much. Now this beautiful video that makes me think my Uncle is walking happy in Nature somewhere up there… like Snatam is doing. Thank-you Snatam Kaur 🙏🏻 Namaste’ 🕉 🌺

My dad and I have a sould connection. Yesterday morning this song randomly comes on ask I am packing to move. My heart immediately begins to beat faster as the cords played. I then start singing as if I knew the words. Shortly, after I am brought down to my knees crying uncontrollably. Then I am brought to my feet and feel this crazy overwhelming sensation come over me. I chant from thee I come and thee I go feeling an amount of love I've only felt one onther time on this planet. I found my father dead 1-18-2021 and we he transitioned, his soul passed through me. I fell to the kitchen floor, holding on to the counter so tightly. I thought I would die....I have not words to describe how it feels when a soul passes through your soul but I felt the most powerful sensation of love also...I promise you, I had no idea what Akaal meant until tonight. I TRULY feel my Da was coming through on this song to me....and I'm not even typing other things that have happened...I am grateful for your music and talents. Gratitude for assisting souls through! I play this song on my morning walks and I must say that most days as I listen to this in one ear and see the beauty that surrounds me, the earth holding me, the wind gliding by my ears, and I smell the openings of Spring I cry.
