I have the new version of the Reverb and it hasn't missed a beat and am very happy with its performance. Unfortunately the Reverb launch was marred by component tolerence quality control issues and looks like you got caught in the middle. HP have now adressed the issues and the newer version seem fine now that they have been out in the wild for over a month now. You should be happy when you recieve your replacement. A couple of tips that might help with WMR: WMR needs to track your surrounds optically and needs a good amount of ambient room light in order to achieve this. Several people have taken to using desklamps etc to lighten up the surrounds and get better tracking. Another trick some have taken to is using IR leds or IR stips to aid capture. I have read that normal led strips work just as well but the IR ones are less distracting. Make sure your room lights are all on. On your desk in front of you make sure there is good contrast of objects to allow the tracker mapping. If everything is dark or monotone you will have issues. When using for sims set up using seated/standing position option. One issue you may have is your large wide flat monitor setup directly in front of your view. It will make it difficult for the software to make and maintain its required track map. I always fix the "stuck in 3DOF mode" by giving the headset a view of my surroundings during startup initialisation. ie when you first boot up the WMR app or first put on the headset. Out of habit as soon as the window pops up I look to the left, center down and up and right down and up. I believe this helps with the positioning and registration points for the tracking during start up. It only takes a second or two during initialisation and most often avoids the stuck in 3DOF issue. This is not just an issue with the reverb it happens to most WMR headsets if low light or bare blank spaces around play area. Hope these tips help your issues.

I’ve been checking back often looking for a follow up video on your Pimax first impressions. I’m sitting on the fence between Pimax and the Valve Index (been using the original vive for over 3 years). 95% of my use case is for sim racing. Please give us some follow up on your experience with Pimax!!
I’ve been close to pulling the trigger on the Index, but the FOV on the Pimax has me so intrigued. I’ve been using VR since the DK2 days, so the tinkering with Pimax isn’t really a putoff, unless it’s a total mess of course.

You are right about everything you said in the video, I love flight simulation, very happy with the res in the headset but the WMR port just ruined all, I'm sending mine back.
For something that cost over 500€ with issues like those you've mentioned, its no a good deal, rather wait for the next gen in VR. Thanks for the video.

If you're losing tracking or going from 6 DoF down to 3 DoF try adding a little more light in the area that you are sitting at. Most of the time when I seem to notice the loss of tracking is when I have the rooms lights off or dimmed down too much. You would think the monitor light would be enough, but it doesn't seem to be. Maybe too many shadows? Also too much daylight will also mess up tracking but in a different way.
When you use the Pimax try it without any lighthouses on. The Pimax will run without them, but with only the 3 DoF. I know you've mentioned you don't like running in VR that way, but I would be curious just to see or know if you feel the same way with the Pimax.
I have a Vive, Samsung Odyssey, Samsung Odyssey +, and a Lenovo Explorer. I prefer the SO.

I had static on my O+, it was my Extention cable causing the problem.

I've just gotten my Reverb. So far it's great, just does not like to be used with display port extension cables. Sound is good but I chose to go with this because I can use my own headphones. The cable for me is a big issue though, it's too thick and rigid. I've had track 3dof issues with the Samsung O+ manually start SteamVR after Windows MR portal, don't have it auto start. Less problems that way for some reason. Windows MR software is a hit or miss affair.

Your not the only one that feel that way about WMR software and a lot of tinkering just to race. Thats why I returned mine, cant even load up ACC on steam. There is a long way to go for that headset and reliability.

My one had dead pixels as well, everything else was perfect though. serial no. 930 so was part of the updated batch. I returned for a refund.

Hi Crash! Finally my HP Reverb arrived in Uruguay. It works excellent, no dead pixels, no overheating, no flickering. At the beginning I was a little disappointed, because the only improvement with respect to CV1 and the original Oddissey was that they have no sde, then I realized that I will need a better graphic than my 1080 Strix. After I update my gpu I am sure that my experience will improve markedly. Regards! Alvaro
((Hola Crash! Finalmente llegó mi HP Reverb a Uruguay. Funciona excelente, sin pixeles muertos, ni sobrecalentamiento, sin parpadeos. Al principio estuve un poco decepcionado, pues la única mejora con respecto al CV1 y las Oddissey originales era que estas no tienen sde, luego me di cuenta que necesitaré una gráfica mejor que mi 1080 Strix. Luego que actualice mi gpu estoy seguro que mi experiencia mejorará notablemente.))
