Mercedes just recalled 8500 cars due to software issues. The official announcement says (and I’m not joking) that whilst the software update is “over the air”, owners will still need to visit a dealer to have it installed… 😂😂😂

Is someone going to tell them???

I grew up in Kenosha WI, both my parents worked at the AMC plant. My dad said on the assembly line they would take the fuel tanks back off the cars and undercoat them then put them back on toward the end of the line. A new guy that was working on the line told his forman they should have the tanks galvanized so they wouldn't have to remove and re-install them. Some union guys came and took that guy to a closed room and made it clear to him if they did that 3 people per line would lose their jobs and to keep his mouth shut and do his job if he wanted to keep it. 3 months later that foreman went to the big brass with the idea and got himself a big bonus. It is amazing how many different ways these car companies are driving into the ground, the union clearly didn't care.

Just how impressive Tesla is can be gleaned from looking at its history. As Gary pointed out June 2012 was the first time the model S appeared. In 2015 Elon boasted that Tesla would produce half a million cars in 2020 and in 2020 Tesla did just that. We are expecting about 2 million cars in 2023. Other than Tesla no company can quadruple its vehicle production every 3 years; that’s 8 million in 2026. 20 million a year by 2030 looks inevitable.

@SMR I watched this conversation twice. Fantastic confirmation of industry veterans that validate the underappreciated approach and outcomes of Tesla.

I was astounded by how fast Tesla responded to the IRS rules which reduced model 3 tax credit from $7500 to $3750 in early April 2023. It only took Tesla a few weeks(?days!) to change the sourcing and documentation of battery components to REqualify and restore the full $7500 credit for all model 3’s sold in the US. What other company moves that fast? Think of the level of commitment and sense of ownership at the individual Tesla employee level that it must’ve taken to make this happen. Truly, awesome!

Tesla is Usain Bolt in the 200m race with a 100m head start and racing against a bunch of dwarves who can't find their running shoes.

You know Steven, it amazes me over and over how much these big investors still do not know about the daily function of Tesla. Just like where did the SpaceX structural foam come from to go in these Tesla cars. Just from being a longtime viewer of your Channel I learned a long time ago that Elon asked SpaceX engineers to design the model Y and that is why that car turned the industry on it's head with efficiency. And anyone at the company can float from SpaceX to Tesla to Boring if they want to cross-train themselves. The company is absolutely incredible. Please never stop pumping out your videos! 👍🏻 🇺🇲

Best YouTube ever !! we have been taking AG 1one for three months. Great product. My experience working as an industrial engineer in the aerospace for five years then 29 years as a systems engineer with IBM in Central, Florida then five years in the data processing in the school district for five more years retired July 99, and now Lester, the investor Has some enjoyed products by Apple and now Tesla. Tesla is a wonderful example of engineering manufacturing change logistics that I have observed over the years. For example, I worked mainframe with IBM for 15 years with software operating systems, and then became the personal computer expert in education, university industries. IBM finally realized they did not compete well in the PC business and sold it to the Chinese. They never really understood what the requirements were when I suggested a smart telephone back in the 80s why would we need something like that for at the headquarters. They missed that whole product development, and Apple did not. The iPad Apple has improved dramatically and I love the Apple 19 inch pro!
Now I enjoy watching the YouTube covering the construction of Tesla, Austin Gigafactory especially the drone operator Joe Tegtmeyer. It’s my construction 401 for the past three years and what a change in technology building and manufacturing products today ! my comparison would be Sylvania trying to build radio, receiving tubes compared to transistors compared to chip manufacturing Today. And change is good but it takes a special company like Tesla to take advantage of it. Legacy automobile manufacturers definitely are in the past like the Buggywhip and a lot of products that have disappeared in today’s market. Thanks for the great video, and the discussion was very informative to me. I have a model Y compared to the five years of the model three which I love them, I appreciate changes that have been implemented and product improvements just between those two products. Look forward to the cybertruck as it is a radical change to the truck industry. Two first day orders maybe I’ll see one in 2023 as I am now approaching 84, my first pick up truck looking forward to all the technology in this new product, thanks for all the wisdom you share and for AG 1, I like it and my wife does too.

SMR, Thanks for your continued insight, irreverence and sense of humor. Happy to be (with you) on the spectrum, used to try to cover it up, now I know it’s my superpower. Love my AG1 too.

It’s not just legacy Auto where change Is “managed”, it’s pervasive across all Corporate manufacturing. Change almost always involves excessive paperwork, and is considered a disruption to a orderly process.

I live in Vancouver Canada. Driving to work yesterday, there was a model Y in front of me, beside me and behind me and there were 2 more that I could see. When I got to work I parked beside one. They are literally all over the place.

Fantastic video, SMR! Successful startup companies are known for speed of innovation and improvement. 2005 Tesla was a startup company with the Roadster. 2010, still a startup company with the Model S and X. 2017 again a startup company with the Model 3. 2020 yet again considered a startup company with the model Y. As a successful startup, Tesla's annual production has increased by 50%, and net income doubled each year. In 2023 through 2030 and beyond Tesla will continue to look and behave like startup company. Astounding.

I am a retired union truck driver who believes the legacy automakers, unions and the culture will definitely destroy themselves because of their refusing to change. Many of them see it and are scared to death of the future, but do not know how to change it.😢
