Monaco is located in southern Europe on the coast of the Ligurian Sea near the French Cote d'Azur, 20 km northeast of Nice. On land, the principality borders on France, the Alpes-Maritimes department.
The area of the country is 2.02 km². The length of the coastline is 4.1 km, the length of land borders is 4.4 km. Over the past 20 years, the country's territory has increased by almost 40 hectares due to the drainage of marine areas.
Communes of Monaco (existed between 1911 and 1917):
La Condamine - area along the port;
Monaco is an old city located on a rocky promontory;
Monte Carlo is the richest and most prestigious area. The main resort area, the richest residences are located here.
According to The World Factbook, as of July 2021, Monaco has a population of 31,223.
National composition (2008)[18]:
French - 28.24%;
Monegasques - 21.5%;
Italians - 18.57%;
British - 7.5%;
others - 24.19%.
Monaco The largest religious group is Catholics. These include 82% of the principality's population.
Monaco's economy is developing mainly due to tourism, gambling, the construction of new residences, as well as due to media coverage of the life of the princely family.
The climate of Monaco is subtropical Mediterranean[23], with warm, dry summers (average temperatures 20-25°C) and mild rainy winters (average temperatures 10-12°C). The overwhelming amount of precipitation falls in autumn and winter, there are about 300 sunny days a year, about 60 rainy days. The climate of Monaco is similar to the southern coast of France.
Every year since 1929, Monaco has hosted one of the most prestigious competitions in motorsport, the Monaco Grand Prix, which has been part of the Formula 1 World Championship since 1950. The route runs along the city streets. Also, the Automobile Club of Monaco has been organizing the Monte Carlo Rally since 1911, one of the oldest motorsports competitions in the world, included in the calendar of the leading rally championships. However, the rally itself is held mostly in France, and only maintenance and exhibition special stages are held in the principality itself.
