The characters are Hua Cheng and Xie Lian from 天官赐福/Tian Guan Ci Fu (TGCF)/Heaven Official's Blessing/Благословение небожителей.
It's a chinese BL novel. It also has a manhua and donghua adaptations under the same name.
This animatic is based on the song lyrics rather than book plot.

This feels like a folktale! It's so beautiful and seems simple at first glance, but everything under it is so complex and fascinating. I can imagine this being the "folktale" version of HuaLian centuries after.

Unsure what the lyrics mean but honesty the emotion and how well you've drawn each frame is enough to let me understand how it goes and how it's related to the novel. Almost cried (again) when Hua Cheng became butterflies. This was so gorgeous im in love 💕❤️❤️❤️

I'm Japanese. I never thought I would have such an encounter with a song from my country. I do not know the original story of the illustration, but I think this animation is very fantastic and beautiful. It fits the image of the lyrics as well.

thank u for this, it's so beautiful (T⌓T) the art style is amazing, and the music fits so well. I cried a minute into the video...anything that reminds me of Book 4 & little ghost fire hc makes me extremely sad. No matter how many c-novels I've read, no matter how many years pass since I first read tian guan, HuaLian will always have a special place in my heart! it's just one of those things that automatically make me sob even though I already have a high angst tolerance lol
