Marine sets US national record freediving

Lieutenant Colonel Laurence Paik of the United States Marine Corp has set a national freediving record on April 20th 2024 with a constant weight no fins dive to 73 meters. The dive took place during the Xibalba Freediving competition in Cenote Util in Mexico. In this discipline, the athlete swims down a predetermined length of rope and back up without the use of fins. Laurence uses a modified breast stroke to propel himself. The attempt was judged and validated by 3 AIDA judges.

It’s impressive for sure, but Ekaterina Sadurska from Ukraine 🇺🇦 established 76 meters world record in same discipline a year ago, I assumed that freediving is worldwide discipline, why Americans accounting their own records book, sometimes it feels that USA people are living in a bubble, just to feel that they are the best in the world with no regard to the rest of the world, weird… Can someone please explain?
