VA Mental Health Claims: Why Some Veterans Are Getting Denied And Some Approved!

preview_player
Показать описание
The VA rates mental health claims as 0%, 10%, 30%, 50%, 70%, or 100%. The more detailed information you provide, the higher your rating. Veteran's Affairs sometimes rates veterans based on their symptoms. Therefore, if a veteran has symptoms that fall in the 30, 50, or 70% ranges, they will likely receive a 50% rating. The problem with this method is that it does not accurately rate mental disorders.

A rating is based on the symptoms that are most prevalent, not on an average. For example, if a veteran has six symptoms at 30%, three at 50%, and two at 70%, he or she should receive a 70% rating. Additionally, the VA cannot downplay symptoms and give the veteran a lower rating.

I told myself the lie of, I dont have PTSD for many years. Especially while I was still in before retirement, why.... Mostly because I was surrounded by the same people that were changing and suffering from the same symptoms I was. I pretty much deployed twice with the same guys (04/05 and 07/08). We didnt even see it in each other. Get checked. Be honest with yourself and t=your therapist. Life is much better once you come to grips with it. Thanks Craig. Happy Thanksgiving brother!

Thanks CC. It's hard being open and honest, especially to yourself, but it's the only way thru. It's great to see vet's helping vet's, just like we learned in basic, TEAMWORK = SUCCESS.

It’s all about personal letters my fellow vets. No matter what write one for each condition. They canceled my C&P exams and instantly gave me 100% P&T after my regional rater reviewed my records and read my letters it was within 24 hours my 100% changed to P&T. I cussed a-lot and wrote exactly what was on my mind and what I had to deal with daily . Before you ask yes I got to talk to a regional rater that handled my case and they gave me their direct number. They are just normal people if you can believe that. Some of them are vets and some are dicks but normal people. Keep fighting for what you deserve.

I was very fortunate to have a C and P mental health examiner (contracted by VA) who was pro veteran. I explained how my cardiovascular illness caused me to be incredibly anxious. Within 5 weeks of filing my claim my disability rating was increased from 60 to 80%. I think having a representative from the Texas Veteran's Commission assist in filing my claim helped move things along quickly.

I agree with this completely and thank you for sharing. It’s not the life you live and what you do now that “matters”. What matters is the mental issues and how they impact you day to day. Just like CC says, you can make 200k or be in college or whatever and still have issues. Material nonsense has nothing to do what’s within your head and what you’re experiencing. Kudos bro. 🇺🇸

Some people get lucky while getting there claim to 100 P&T on there first go around with all the proper documentation and supporting civilian doctors I will admit I'm the few who has only one disability but at 100 P&T I count my blessings for the VA and support thanks for all the golden info

I just had my fourth C&P exam (hopefully my last). I made sure I talked about my symptoms that live in the 100% range. I feel the examiners "cherry pick" the questions to avoid the higher ratings. If you have a problem, you have to talk about it! UPDATE: My rating did not go up at all, (which proves my point).

I was discharged in 09. Got 40% in 2012 for bipolar disorder. Went back to the VA in 2016 to try and get help finding a job because my depression and bipolar disorder was seriously holding me back. The gentleman running that job program basically forced me to go back to the VBA. I did, I told the psychologist everything I was struggling with and 2 months later I got 100% for bipolar disorder and alcohol abuse disorder. Went back for a reevaluation a year later and ended up getting p&t. With the depression and anxiety, its more nerve wrecking knowing that the VA can pretty much take it or reduce it if they wanted to. So even being 100% p&t, it's a constant worry. Good luck to u vets fighting.

I’ve been very embarrassed to admit and openly talk about my PTSD, because I often feel like my symptoms “aren’t as bad as some other veterans” and therefore invalidate myself.

More and more I’ve been accepting the fact that I can’t run from my mental conditions, and the VA rated me the way they did for a reason, and I have nothing to be ashamed of.

Currently waiting for BVA video conference, I see my psychiatrist 3 times a month (not a VA psychiatrist) have all the proper documentation my attorney says the conference will help get me to 100%. It’s a long wait and hoping to have the conference in 2023. Great videos as always, Happy Thanksgiving CC and all Vets

I’m awaiting my decision for increase. I made sure the VA knew all of thoughts and struggles. I’m confident in my pending decision

I've been out for a while now and I have had such a case of the "tough guy" syndrome I never even looked into contacting the VA for claims. After doing some research and watching your videos I most definitely fall in the 70% rating category. I started the claim and will probably have the exam within 2 months but I'm nervous about speaking about my issues because I have never talked to anyone about it.
