How to find a Bicycle Accident Lawyer You Can Trust (Florida)

There are some important things you should remember when choosing a bicycle accident lawyer after an accident in Florida. Here is what Jim Dodson, The Florida Bike Guy suggests:

1) Choose a lawyer who is an active cyclist. Jim's personal injury law firm has found that most cyclists feel comfortable working with him because he's an active cyclist and understands the sport. He understands why they ride and why it's important to them. Understanding the joy of riding and what it means to lose that ability after a bike crash is something you should consider when choosing a lawyer. This all needs to be conveyed to a claims adjuster. The loss of a cyclist's ability to ride temporarily, or in the worst cases even permanently, is a huge part of anyone's claim who's been injured on the bike.

2) When choosing an attorney after a bicycle accident make sure they understand what it means to get your bike repaired or replaced. Most lawyers who are doing personal injury work deal with a lot of car accident cases and not very many bike cases unless they really specialize in cycling. Should the bike frame be replaced? Well, if your lawyer is a cyclist, and understands the dynamics of a crash, particularly with a carbon frame, that bike frame should be replaced in most situations. Does your lawyer understand that? Does your lawyer understand how to get that done? Are they gonna repair the bike or replace the bike? These are all things that an experienced road riding cycling lawyer understands that most personal injury attorneys who mostly deal with car accidents don't.

3) Another thing you should look at when choosing a lawyer is their testimonials on their website and their Google reviews. Do you have the opportunity to watch and listen to an actual bike client talk about their relationship with that lawyer in the law firm? How many Google reviews do they have and what is the star rating? What are their cycling clients saying? These are all very important to get firsthand observations of what actual clients think about that lawyer.

4) Another big consideration is whether the lawyer is simply in it to get the most cases. Is the law firm strictly a business that is throwing a big net to get as many cases as they can, along with their auto cases, or is this lawyer committed to cycling safety? Are they a safety advocate? Are they writing? Are they publishing? Are they speaking about cycling issues and about safety and how cyclists can remain safe and avoid crashes?

6) Be sure and find out who you will deal with in the lawyer's office. In many large advertising firms, you might not even meet the “big name” attorney. You want to know who you will be working with. Find out how long the team has worked together. How stable is that team? And will they be there for you when you need them? At the end of the day, you should be able to meet the lawyer, whether you meet by Zoom or talk over the phone or whatever. You need to have a sense in your heart that the attorney understands you and is gonna work and do the very best they can for you.

7) How will the injuries the cyclist sustained affect them in the future? Does this lawyer understand the effects of post-traumatic arthritis in a joint injury? And will this lawyer take the steps to reach out to the doctor or a lifecare planner to find out how the injuries will affect this person over the course of their lifetime?
