I'm Vietnamese and I own a pho restaurant... I don't know why people are getting upset. For just seeing it on the trees, he made a pretty good recipe. The ingredients are correct, although maybe his methods weren't. I'd say not bad, I've seen way worse version on YouTube where they just add soy sauce and call something Asian

Keep in mind a chef is totally different from a cook. A cook is the one who follows and recreates all the recipes exactly as they are. However, a chef is the one who creates recipes or follows recipes with his own creations. Donald is a chef, not a cook, so we don't expect him to cook the noodle soup Pho exactly as we normally see. Besides, he's spent quite time in Vietnam learning Vietnamese cuisine through his gastronomic adventures in Vietnam, which gives us a great respect for his quite delicious version of chicken noodle soup Pho.

Pretty good but don't cook the noodles in the broth. Cook in in a separate pot of water.

Being of a certain ethnicity doesn't make you an expert in that ethnic food.
Exposure is one thing, study/talent is another.

In the description box, it uses the word "Inspired." Pretty sure that is there for a reason. In addition, it never claims to be authentic or traditional.
He isn't replicating the mainstream recipe, he is creating his own version of it.
What is wrong with that?
Food evolves through clashes of culture.

Please stop belittling the chef because it isn't how your mom made it or something.
Also understand that this video is tailored to Western audiences, and not Vietnamese.
This means preferred taste palette/method can be different. Thus, birth of"fusion" cuisine.

It's crap like this that forces some chefs to repeatedly state in their videos that their recipe is not authentic" over and over.

Give them a break.

It's a shortcut. Well done. I like the way you split ginger & onion before grill it. Thanks for recipe. I'm vietnamese.

Majority of Vietnamese noodles have something in there that will causes your clear boiling water to be diluted after few bowls of cooking. You will notice after a few more bowls you just gonna have to discard the water due to the impurities & the starches started forming. But you can cook bánh canh, udon, Ramen & other types of noodles directly into the pot which doesn't create that prob. Make gỏi gà from the left over chicken. Love this video fun to watch and so much enthusiasm!

I think he's not trying to make authentic Vietnamese version, but rather he makes his version, but inspired by the original Viet version.

Thanks Donal for the video and recipe, I think they are well-done, and as a Vietnamese I'm pleased to know you enjoy "Phở gà", Vietnamese chicken noodle soup, that much. Normally the final touch to "Phở gà" is some thinly sliced lime leaves, but you can skip it if lime leaves are not available. :) For me and my family, "Phở gà" is not just a dish. We may eat "Phở gà" if we feel unwell (having headache, a cold, a fatigue, etc.), the broth makes us sweat and then we feel better. Besides "Phở gà", we have a huge variety of Vietnamese noodle soups, and I very much look forward to more of your Vietnamese recipes, "Miến lươn" (eel glass noodle soup), or "Bún riêu" (crab noodle soup with tomato) perhaps. :D

Dude, it's fenomenal that you make recipes with such easy-to-find ingredients (I'm from Brasil). I just love it! Thumbs up for you, anyway! Great job!

I’m grateful that he wants to share this video with us. I’m going to give it a try as it looks delicious. Thank you !
Some so call chef/cook are not totally honest and they don’t teach you minor steps which are important to that dish. Or the portion of the ingredients are incorrect . Actually I get a bit disheartened, all I want is to learn to improve my cooking and so I’m always looking to follow new chefs on YouTube.
