In all fairness ablutophobia is usually caused by trauma, like being assaulted while bathing or almost drowning in a bathtub as a child
It isn't really one of those phobias a lot of people just kinda have like arachnophobia, it's usually actively brought on by something happening and your brain making the association between bathing and danger

My mother feared yellow in her youth. She was badly burned as a child and there was a yellow antibiotic cream they'd smear on her after the surgeries and the whole cleaning process was very painful and basically torture to a 4.5 year old that can't understand why it has to happen so... I mean yeah it sounds nuts but childhood trauma sucks. She didn't allow anything yellow in her home until her mid forties. All fine now though no worries!

I believe that what a lot of people fail to realize is that most phobias are caused by traumatic events. This opens an infinite door of possibilities for phobias. So phobias can never be dumb. They can only be oddly specific.

Ablutophobia makes sense. A lot of people who were sexually assaulted have difficulties showering afterwards because it makes them feel vulnerable or, if they don't shower, it'll lower the chances of it happening again.

Always remember though that most phobias exist for a very good reason.

A cousin of mine has ablutophobia.
She developed it after her father attempted to drown her in a bath he was giving her when she was 7. Apparently, he saw his child's bathtime as an opportunity to enact vengeance on his wife for cheating on him.

She had to take years of therapy and forced showers to be at the state she is now, but even that hasn't fully removed the fear.

Abluthophobia is most common, I believe, in SA survivors. There are a lot of ways an abuser can make the idea of showering or cleaning oneself into something their victims dread.

As someone with Ablutophobia I can tell you that you are absolutely right in the fact that these are super weird things to be scared of, but just don’t make me feel like shit about my life for that, it also doesn’t help when people like you shame me for something I never wanted in my life to begin with. I really like your content, but this was a big miss, and really hurts. Also phobias vary person to person, so others may not have it as bad a me to where they can do some things but it makes them slightly uncomfortable, and some may have it even more crippling than I do to the point where they can’t even step foot into a turned off bathtub.

I understand the fear of knees if you are afraid of hurting them. All i did was a little twist and a trip and a critical part of my knee the meniscus disc tore in 3 places and folded half over.
