Can you get an AI chatbot to make up a joke that is actually funny?

We started looking at AI and Deep Fake technology this week, and it honestly started to scare us. Josh found some of the weirdest and most interesting videos to show with Jordan, along with ChatGPT which he hadn't tried yet. The more we talked about it, though, the most optimistic about the future we became.

I asked ChatGPT to explain the goat yogurt joke. This is what it said:

It doesn't write jokes from what I've heard, it uses what's already written on the Internet as a template. Like Commander Data in Star Trek. If you want a laugh look up a scene where Data tries to tell a joke, it's funny but for the wrong reasons.

I agree that AI can be a good thing, but so easily abused.
I'm an artist and I've heard from so many in the artist community that an AI app that everyone seemed to be using (you know the one where you put pictures into it and it creates "original" artwork of YOU) actually used real artist's artworks without compensation or credit (somehow legally they get around it) to create their "new original art". Which makes me think that anything "original and good" that comes out of AI is either a pure stroke of luck or, more likely, someone's work being manipulated. Makes sense when you think about how AI only works with and rearranges the information it's fed.

About the metaverse video: it turns out that Iceland made a video roasting it, titled "Introducing the Icelandverse". I haven't even seen (all of) the original and the parody is still hilarious.

So I feel compelled to mention these chat bots are not real "a.i." in the sense we think it is, it's basically an advanced search engine. That poem, it probably found one already written somewhere on some site somewhere. So that'll definitely bring up some legal issues later when companies use them instead of people.

A human can make the jokes better because they can understand it, not just follow an algorithm based on analyzing jokes. The goat one would have been funny if it had been phrased as "Why did the goat open a cheese shop? Because he was tired of acting like a kid, and was ready to pay his own whey!"
